Apple Cup is cancelled -

WSU won't have enough players by this weekend so their rivalry game vs. UW is cancelled.
UW is trying to schedule BYU as a replacement which would be a great game! Alas, BYU is balking.

Fresno State is also down a second week, so 2 FBS games this weekend are already cancelled.
I think the final total last week was 18.

If BYU took that game and won they could be in line for the CFP.
I think Oregon has the only real chance to get into the CFP (SC has too many lucky wins), so for the Pac-12 getting UW with BYU is rather important.
A win would raise the Pac-12's profile AND eliminate BYU. A loss would erode the Pac-12's profile, but the Pac-12 winner would have a tough case if Cincy and BYU are both undefeated too. With UW getting the win, they would then offer Oregon and the Pac-12 a high profile game for 12/12.
Seems like the Pac-12 should firm up that game with UW as host. The game would get much better ratings than a last minute match-up between UW and a weak Pac-12 South team.

Too bad that Ford Frick isn’t around to put an asterisk on this sorry-azz season.

I put Big Game odds at 25%. And I would not be surprised to see the PAC-12 shut it all down by the end of this week.

Nike U won’t stand for it. They have already hired Rudy Giuliani to fight it out.

1. I thought UW was supposed to be bad this year? And they smoked Arizona on Saturday. Hmm . . .
2. In this already-shortened season, I'm not sure why people are clamoring for total shut-down. I'm in the opposite camp: if alternative games can be set up, go for it.
Let the kids play and enjoy the competition. That is literally all that most teams are playing for - and it's not the worst thing to return to the fundamental motivation of
the game (especially, as you have noted in separate questions, as there does not appear to be any particular risk of spread to playing). Just because WE can't enjoy the games like we normally would (i.e., by tailgating and attending, etc.), doesn't mean we have to make sure NO ONE enjoys the games.
3. BYU has already played 9 games, and they're undefeated. Color me impressed. Not sure why BYU would be balking at playing UW, unless they think there's a real risk of an L there.

BYU isn't exactly "balking." They want to lock in a contract to play that game, as they are worried UW will almost definitely play Utah once Utah-ASU is cancelled due to Covid. (Conference games take precedence over non-cons per Pac-12 guidelines set out earlier.)

That was the policy, but let's just call say what it was designed to do.
It was the Oregon needs to play 7 games plan.
That wasn't really the plan, but everything the Pac-12 is doing is to get Oregon or another PAC-12 team into the CFP. So getting UW to play BYU is critical. Create an amendment to the policy prioritizing efforts for undefeated teams to maximize their number of games and move on.
BYU has played a bunch of very weak teams because of the realities of COVID, but they don't seem that good.
Washington should beat BYU, then that would set up a scenario for a massive 12/12 UW v Oregon game. That'd help the Pac-12 a lot.
In that scenario the winner, now on the national RADAR would be set for a Pac-12 CG game with some national interest.
Just got to get BYU out of the way by beating them in Seattle.

Go Cougars. Be a cold day in Hades before I root for Washington, Oregon or SC to make NCS.

This exemplifies why the Pac-12 has not won a CFP and has not been invited to one in many years.
Got to be unified on this one.
Conference success creates Stanford success.
The SEC has brutal rivalries, but they do understand that at least one team from the conference should be in the CFP every year.
Conference excellence creates program excellence in most sports BTW -
Pac-12 women's soccer is brutal, but no doubt that UCLA, USC and Stanford's strength has enable each of them to win NCAA team titles.
Same for women's volleyball, softball, swimming and more.
To be the best you need to compete against the best during the regular season. If our best teams, and this year that is Oregon, UW, Colorado and SC, can't beat BYU at home, then they don't deserve CFP consideration.
And if they don't deserve CFP consideration the best players don't come to the Pac-12.
And the lack of a national reputation for the conference hurts Stanford Football more than any other Pac-12 program because Stanford must recruit nationally.
Put it this way, if the Pac-12 does not get a team into the CFP it is likely because Notre Dame got into the show. That is a bigger problem for Stanford Football than Oregon, UW or Colorado doing well. So go Buffs, Huskies and Ducks.
I can't get myself to be hopeful for SC, yet, but if they are 6-0 or 7-0 on December 20th then I will expect they would get the CFP invitation an undefeated Pac-12 team should get.

I check obsessively to make sure Cal can still play. I wish I didn't have to miss a game, but would hate for UCB to get to keep the Axe for another year thanks to a COVID no contest scenario.
USC not playing UCLA would be bad for similar reasons if it happened, as I am sure UCLA alums would have wanted to see if they could get that bell with a partially depleted USC roster. Guess we will see how USC progresses over the next few weeks.
I would have preferred to see Colorado beat USC this weekend, but I hope they can beat SDSU.
Took a peak at the Pac-12 CG eligibility and it might get really messy for the Pac-12 South
