I look at this season as a series of live scrimmages. Other than Big Game, these matches are meaningless. The more playing time our guys can get, the better they will be next season.

Same here. The Big Game meant a little more because it was the Big Game, and because it was close, but it was hard to view the other two as anything more than a glorified scrimmage. UW I might have the slightest interest in given the matchup history, but it will be reaaaaaly hard to care at all about Oregon State.

I tell myself repeatedly that these games are glorified scrimmages, but then I find myself caring as much as if they counted.

I still care but not as much as before Garbers TD last year and Shaw running on third and fourth down into a wall named Weaver.

No "the".

"The big game" (no caps) = Euphemism for the Superbowl (I believe that the NFL tried to copyright that phrase)
"Big Game" (Capitalized) = the more important game between Stanford and that other team in the Bay (and probably the reason why the NFL couldn't copyright the term).

Quote:Faced with the opposition of Stanford and Cal, the NFL has changed courses on its efforts to trademark the phrase "The Big Game." It has decided to punt.

UW is looking very strong right now, so Stanford's results this year vs. the first-year combo of HC + OC should be somewhat important. And with Oregon State's shock upset of Oregon, it's important to me to see if Stanford's defensive front seven can contain that OSU ground attack. Given our trouble with Colorado, I'm looking for some meaningful improvement from our first-year ILB coach.

With 2 healthy scholarship ILBs? Are you serious?

Relative to expectations (mine, anyway), it's been the OLBs that have disappointed this fall.

Agreed, though we have 2 OLBs in Umerah and Kaufusi out for the season, and Gabe Reid being forced to play ILB since there are even MORE injuries there. So really we're talking about missing 3 players there too.

And isn't there a void in 2021 committed LB's? Well you can always sign a few JC kids................................
