Oregon is flat - Phogge - 12-05-2020

Cal driving again. Third down inside the 20.

19 play drive puts Cal up 14-3 with five to go in second Q.

RE: Oregon is flat - BostonCard - 12-05-2020

I would not mind at all if Oregon went down to winless Cal.

Oregon now ahead.

RE: Oregon is flat - BostonCard - 12-05-2020

Boy, who dressed up the Stanford defense in Cal uniforms?  Cal punted with about 40 seconds left in the half up 14-10 and Oregon goes on a three play, 75-yard touchdown drive that takes 23 seconds.  On the first play, Slough connects with Dye for 67 yards. I thought this was what Wilcox was supposed to prevent opponents from doing.

Makes you wonder if Mills able to play the first game could we be 4-0. Doesn’t matter now but what a well bad break for Stanford. Or as my friend says on TOS. It’s criminal

RE: Oregon is flat - SamuelMcF - 12-05-2020

Oregon fumbles on their game-winning drive. Bears win.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but...good.

RE: Oregon is flat - lex24 - 12-05-2020

I guess the Ducks aren’t quite what they were quacked up to be.

RE: Oregon is flat - Griffins78 - 12-05-2020

Cal looked good. Defense was tough and made breaks. Their QB, Shough took a lot of hits while running and looked to be struggling. Great to see them beat Oregon. With our win vs UW, next week against OSU would be a big game

I don't want to be too controversial, but...

It sure seems to me we have to now consider that if Mills wasn't wrongly held out of the Oregon game, and not permitted to practice before the Colorado game, Stanford could be 4-0 and leading the North.

And, if Cal didn't have its Covid issues and wasn't forced into that unfair game against UCLA, Cal is a couple plays from being 3-1.

So, Covid has totally screwed up Cal's and Stanford's seasons.

Not to mention about 275,000 lives.

And perhaps we could be 6-0 and go up against Alabama in the playoff, where we'd get beat 99-6. They are a real football team, and we're not. Fortunately in the hypothetical game, Booker blocked an extra point from keeping the Tide from hitting the century mark.

They would pick 1-loss ND and Clemson over us anyways, so this is a totally moot point.

To be clear, I'm not at all thinking about Stanford as a playoff team, or at least one capable of beating any currently Top 5 team.

My point was just what it was.  Based on what we have seen happen with games played in the Pac-12 this year, Mills being held out with a false positive Covid test it looking like a significant - and really unfair - setback for Stanford.  The team appears good enough to be 4-0 if Mills played - and just as importantly, practiced - all the way through as he should have.

Fixed it for you. . . .

Man, Chrystobal has got to be the most overhyped, over-rated coach in the PAC-12.  That’s three years that the Ducks have lost at least one game they should have won (two this year).

He's "overhyped" because they rake in a ton of high-level talent but are young. I'd argue they're a NY6 team in 2 years.

Cal was the better team with the exception of two plays. More to the point, Cal won with the inferior talent.

I don't know if I've seen Cal beat Oregon and Stanford beat Washington - and both play well doing it - on the same day before.

Maybe, but Oregon was supposed to be the class of the Pac-12 this year, and lost in consecutive weeks to OSU and Cal.  Cal has no wins other than Oregon, and OSU's only win other than Oregon was beating Cal.

Last year they choked against ASU when a win might have given them a chance to get to the CFB playoffs.

The year before they choked against us and wound up fourth in the Pac-12 North.

Maybe once their recruits from 2019, 2020, and 2021 are juniors and seniors they will dominate the Pac-12 and be playoff material, but I wonder if they might not end up like USC in the post-Carroll era, where they would consistently have top-10 recruiting classes and consistently have middling results on the field.

Isn’t it obvious? They would be unbeatable if Butter was the QB.

They had the best QB in America, a very talented OL, and an NFL defense last year. The best they could do was the Rose Bowl. Not bad but they peaked. Their current 5 star defense is over rated and over hyped.
