OT Jets BADLY want Lawrence - lex24 - 12-06-2020

There is simply no other explanation for how they defended the Raiders on that last drive. There’s about 25 seconds left the Raiders are out of time outs on about their own 45. The Jets send  max pressure (and don’t get close) receiver runs down the middle of the field the safety is essentially caught flat-footed he runs by is open by about 5 yards - Carr misses him. So now there’s about 20 seconds left.  And this time they do they single up on the outside with no safety help.  Bring pressure.  Don’t get close.   WR beats the corner by 5 yards again this time Carr doesn’t miss. . Unbelievable

The dumbest coaching decision in a game I have ever seen. There were 13 seconds left and the Raiders had no timeouts. They needed a TD to avoid losing.  Rather than rush 7 and drop 4 as they did, the Jets should have taken a page out of the Giants book today.

The Giants - led by Blake Martinez - played a suffocating zone defense at Seattle, and made Russell Wilson's life really difficult all day long. The Seahawks were in a very similar position to the Raiders, down 5, no timeouts, and less than a minute to go. The Giants rushed 4 and dropped 7.  On 3rd down they got a sack., and forced a 4th and 18. Again the Giants rushed 4, this time getting pressure again, and forcing Wilson to throw the Hail Mary the Jets should have forced, which was harmlessly batted down to give the Giants the ball and end the game.

And to drive home the stupidity of the Jets today. DC Gregg Williams made the call, but why didn't the HC overrule him?

The blitz from midfield when they need a TD, and don't have timeouts was CRAZY.
So the next time someone talks about any college DC being the worst DC ever, I will point to this event for sure.

The Jets have had a few USC QBs, so they have to know the way to win is to get a non-USC QB.
If I had Darn-INT as my QB I would want to upgrade too.

Gase was hired for his QB whispering ways and his offensive mind.  The only talk around town this year with Gase was his inability to let go of play calling when it was evident the Jets O was horrible.  Guessing he's so busy trying to pretend that he gave control over to his OC that he's got no time dealing with the D (And if you have a DC like Williams, you're probably better off not engaging, heh)

He of “Bounty-Gate”.  He should have received a lifetime suspension for that.

As an aside, Gregg Williams is being lauded as a hero by Jets fans for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as he did in that game. I saw a live stream of thousands of Jets fans on YouTube, all actively rooting for the Raiders in that game.

All they can think about is getting Trevor Lawrence, so anything that puts that in jeopardy is seen as sacrilege. They were screaming expletives that the Jets were winning, and celebrated like crazy when the Jets gave up the 46 yard TD. So from a football coaching standpoint, it was a spectacularly dumb decision to rush 7 and cover with 4 on that play, but sometimes spectacularly dumb decisions achieve the preferred outcome for fans who's jobs aren't on the line.

Williams has been canned.

First or second pick isn't that big a difference.  Fields and Lawrence are excellent NFL prospects, and it's impossible to know which will be better.  Coin flip.

I've read that too many times about Ohio State quarterbacks (Troy Smith, Pryor, Cardale, Haskins). They look good in their system, but fizzle in the NFL. I prefer Lawrence by a wide margin.

I've heard talking heads saying Lawrence is head and shoulders above Fields (who isn't bad either).

That said, it may make a big difference for Lawrewnce/Fields if they go 1st or 2nd. Would you rather play for the Jets or Jaguars? =) (i know that's not what you were talking about, but absent a big shakeup that actually does something positive, it's almost guaranteed that whoever lands with the Jets will end up the worse QB.)

Are the Jets tanking or are they really that bad?

Yes.

The best pure passer is Jones of Alabama, particularly on deep balls. The best athlete is either Fields or Lance with Wilson close. I would wait and draft Book. A winner.
