WBB: Stanford @ Pacific Tuesday 6pm -
81alum - 12-14-2020
Preview:
This match up will air on ESPN2 and will be the game when Tara surpasses Pat Summit with the most wins in WBB history.
Pacific has had to cancel all of its games before now, so this will be their season opener. Last year they were 17-9 and they return their three top scorers on a team with lots of experience. I can't find out a lot about them....they have a couple of three point shooters returning who shot in the 30s, and most of their inside players seem to be 6'1" or 6'2".

Jordan Cruz from Sacramento played a bit at Utah before transferring to UOP
Valarie Higgins was at USC before transferring to UOP. Last season she averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds. Was on a youth national team

I'm going to check Cardboard every hour or two until 6:00 pm, half expecting someone to post a link the game was cancelled at the last minute.

Are we safe now? I've been afraid to get my hopes up, but I'd have to be thinking they're in warm-ups?

The audio feed is dead and the espn feed has not yet activated. Tail end of another game on ESPN2. Perhaps they are delaying the start?

Interesting that the game is being played from the Alex Spanos center in Stockton. Spanos' grandson (Michael) I believe walked on to the (Stanford) football team.

Kind of a slow start in the first quarter, but we are up 17-10. Apparently there was an accident near Berkeley and traffic on the road to Stockton and we arrived 90 minutes before the game.
BC
Lexie is missing some WIDE open three pointers.

Pacific looks considerably better than Cal did the other day. Seem to have some shooters.

I don't know what the announcers & BC want re 17-10 as "slow". It was on track for a 100-point game. If that's slow for this team, watch out.

That is the least impressive 26-12 lead after a quarter I've seen. It is really weird that we don't seem to be playing great... and yet we are up by 14 and on pace to 104 points.

LOL, see my last post. Goes to show the difference between the "eye test" and the scoreboard.

Interesting that Tara mentioned that Stanford only met 3 of 12 (?) metrics that Stanford needs to hit if they want to go to the Final Four against Cal. I wonder what those metrics are.
The three point shooting is really off recently. The constant travel can't help.

4 points in the first 4 minutes of Q2 is slow. Is Kiana getting outplayed?

Pacific made it a 4 point game with a bucketfull of threes... then Kianna and Anna Wilson key a 7-0 run.

The team seems tight. I think its the historical nature of the game and probably the ESPN coverage. Lots of plays where two Stanford players collide and the ball goes to Pacific. Or Lexie drains a three but she stepped out of bounds first. And a lot of wide open threes for Pacific. We have had those two but we have not been making them.

Nice showcase the first half for the Pacific program. Things may change in the second half.
Jones is good at boxing out under the basket. Brink looked good when she was in the game.
This is just my personal preference. I would prefer the announcers talk about what is happening on the court when the ball is in play.
