MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - SamuelMcF - 12-15-2020

Starting a game thread here.

I don't have much of a preview besides CSUN being terrible and hoping all our guys are healthy (Delaire was out with back spasms but recent photos showed him in live practice).

Cupcake games are important for deeper rotational players/freshmen to adjust to the speed of the college game. All 5 freshmen saw plenty of time and all showed some flashes against NC A&T, and I hope to see more of that today.

Well Gottried with the Stanford connection is the Head coach and Harrick an assistant
Ron Attest 111 plays and guard TJ Starks averaged 19 points

Plus CSUN beat Pepperdine which took UCLA to three overtime’s

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - Papa John - 12-15-2020

I'm not going to be able to watch, but I really hope that Ziaire Williams finds his footing. He's playing solid defense according to folks who know much more than I, but he's shooting 32.6% FG and 26.3% 3-pointers. On top of that, he rarely finds his way to the FT line. He had that amazing game versus Alabama, was OK versus UNC, but fouled out versus IU and only scored 6 versus NCA&T. Spencer Jones is in the same boat--only 20% 3-pointers.

Vegas has us as 16.5 point favorites.  The advanced stats have Northridge in the low 300's in Division I and make us more like 25 point favorites.

Gottfried was also Alabama's coach during a very forgettable game in the 2005 Tourney. On top of everything else, in 2020 we also get multiple reminders of that game.

Gottfried’s son was once on our fb team

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - SamuelMcF - 12-15-2020

Game is on now. Early 6-0 lead after 4:30ish.

Daejon Davis is out for "failing to meet program standards." I have no idea what that means. Michael O'Connell got the start at PG.

I can't recommend watching.  Up 2 with 5 to go in the first.

Now down 2 at the under 4. Nothing good to say about this so far.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - martyup - 12-15-2020

We're up 3 at the half.  We have a lot of turnovers.

THIRTEEN turnovers in the half....very sloppy.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - Spiny_Norman - 12-15-2020

It's been all DaSilva. Northridge has pressured the ball on the perimeter which has made it tough to help on DaSilva when Stanford has been able to feed the ball to him. He has had his way inside. Spencer Jones has hit two 3s, maybe breaking out of his slump. Williams has been a total non-factor.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - martyup - 12-15-2020

ZW with zero points and 4 rebounds.   DaSilva leads our scoring with 17 of our 33 points.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - martyup - 12-15-2020

We hold a 10 pt lead with 9 minutes to go.

66-57 with 5:53 to go.

This was sweet.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - martyup - 12-15-2020

73-59 with 3:34 to go.  ZW with a Harlem Globtrotter play, inbounding the ball under his basket off the rump of his inattentive defender and finishing with a slam dunk.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - BostonCard - 12-15-2020

Now 75-65.  Da Silva with a monster game (30 points on 9/11 shooting, perfect 12/12 from the free throw line, and 8 rebounds).

Final 82-71.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - bl82 - 12-15-2020

Let's give Noah Taitz some props. He led the team in assists, steals and threes. He had some hustle plays that paid off on defense and his three and subsequent steal and layup was the turning point in the game. In addition to that stretch, shortly thereafter he had two threes that were in and rattled out. Had those stayed in, we would have been talking about Taitz instead of da Silva as the savior of a very underwhelming team performance.

RE: MBB @ CSUN 2pm PST ESPN3 - burger - 12-15-2020

Does anyone know what happened with Daejon?  I think the announcers said something about a conduct issue.

Anyway, the defense clamped down in the second half and the offense (i.e. Oscar) did just enough.  The team seemed a bit off on offense and defense throughout the game, and I think that Davis' absence is why.

Da Silva is averaging 20.2 points per game now.  Casey Jacobsen averaged 22 in 2002.  Has any Stanford player averaged 20 per game since then?
