Dallas Morning News is reporting that if A&M decides to go SEC, then the replacement is balmy, oceanside Kansas.

Joe Schad tweeted earlier today that he heard Utah would have an edge on Kansas.

Do you think Dawkins\' mindset is:
a) Â Oh, great. Â As if beating UCLA and UDub isn\'t hard enough. Â Now they bring in Kansas.
b) Â Great! Â Now I get a chance go take down UCLA AND Kansas!
I truly don\'t know how sensible coaches would view something like this. Â No big deal? Â Life hard enough without adding Kansas into the mix?

Well since Colorado is already a member of the conference, I would suspect they would prefer Utah. This would give them a much better geographic rival.
Utah also has a political angle to it since Senator Hatch and the citizens of Utah have lobbied against these BCS mega conferences the most. That is hard to do if your state school is in the Pac Plus.
Salt Lake city is not a great media market, but it seems more important than any TV market in Kansas.
And with Kansas, I suspect we would always fear they would defect to the Big 11+.

Orangebloods says the final stop on Larry Scott\'s grand tour of Big 12 country is Kansas City (perhaps to talk to jayhawkers?).
Scott\'s weekend jaunt may have been in vain if Big 12 commish Dan the Boob can entice what\'s left of the league into staying intact with a new TV deal that guarantees the 10 remaining teams $17 million a year (up from $7M to $10M now), an amount equal to the SEC payout that A&M is fixating on, plus the money from buyout fees imposed on Nebraska & Colorado. Schools would be free to pursue their own networks (what UT wants) and everyone in the conference plays everyone else every year, just like the old days.
If the Big 12 South teams accept it, the Pac-10 will be stuck with getting a prom date for CU -- maybe Utah.

I don\'t understand how Beebe gets this $17 mil/year number. If he could really get that good a number, why were Nebraska and Colorado so interested in leaving? Surely the conference isn\'t more desirable without these two teams.

Nebraska has been weak this entire decade -- other than its historical value to the league core -- and the Omaha TV market is relatively small; the state ranks in the bottom 20% in population.
With few exceptions (most notably a faux NC with help from that infamous fifth down), Colorado was the feeblest athletic program in the Big 12. The Denver market is focused on its pro teams, not the colleges.

Chip Brown reported just moments ago that UT is going to publicly commit to a 10-team Big 12: Â

Canalejas - 06-14-2010
If this is true, can we please hold off on the Utah business?
The proposed Pac12 with Utah is just very underwhelming. Â Plus, there are no good ways to divide into divisions. Â We only need to look at the ACC to see how awful the zipper is.
If we have been outmaneuvered I say we lick our wounds and play an 11 team round robin.
Whatever happens, just say no to the zipper.

Re: Wha?!? - bpower - 06-14-2010
Well, that\'s more promising. Â I like word of multiple sources confirming it.
Looks like A&M is still going to go to the SEC however, which leaves us with probable Utah. Â I guess CU/Utah and UT/Texas Tech are the new rivalry pairings?
Ultimately, anything that upsets Rick Perry is fine by me.
Re: Wha?!? -
washingtonismoney - 06-14-2010
Well, let\'s put it this way. If you don\'t believe Colorado and Nebraska leaving is a loss to the Big 12, certainly they\'re not a plus for the Big 12. If Beebe really could secure $17 mil/team, why did Nebraska and Colorado decide to leave? It doesn\'t make much sense to me.
OrangeBlood Changes Statement -
Extra Point - 06-14-2010
Chip Brown of OrangeBlood has changed his previous statement about Texas committing to a Big 10 to, "Texas "is committed to coming to the table with the 10 remaining B12 schools to see if there\'s consensus for the Beebe plan."
Speculation is that Texas wants Texas A&M to look like the bad guy.
Re: Wha?!? - Pastor - 06-14-2010
Now ESPN has changed their report, based on Orangebloods to the line that Texas is interested in keeping the Big 12 together as the Big former 12. Â
But what if A&M goes to the SEC...can there be a big 9???

Worst case scenario. This sucks.
Quote:Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott says Texas has turned down an invitation to leave the Big 12 and join his conference.
In an e-mail to The Associated Press, Scott confirms that Texas has rejected the Pac-10\'s offer.

Take Utah, pair with CU, make the best of a crazy situation?
Re: Wha?!? -
dabigv13 - 06-14-2010
Might not be over, but as it stands the best of the crazy situation is to boot Colorado.
Re: Wha?!? -
Ratmandoo - 06-14-2010
I still don\'t know why Larry Scott decided to invite Colorado before there was a Texas commitment. Now the Pac-10 is left with a crappy expansion plan. The plan should have always been get all six Big 12 schools or don\'t expand at all. Now with Colorado and potentially Utah, the Pac-12 is an awkward conference with a lot of headaches in figuring out the conference divisions. Blah.

this is the worst of both worlds--no texas and stuck with colorado? can we put colorado up on ebay?
