Pac-12 championship -
BostonCard - 12-18-2020
Oh man, if Oregon somehow "ducks" this...
BC
Somehow Oregon managed to use up 1:30 on that "drive" without even forcing SC to use a time out. They were snapping the ball with 10 seconds left!
BC
Wow, that interception was big.
BC
My goodness. Oregon gets a penalty on a fair catch, and then USC gets a hold on a punt return with 40 seconds left.
BC
Congratulations to the 3-2 regular season, second place Pac-12 north, Pac-12 champion Oregon Ducks. What a farce.

I just love that the Toejams lost. North rules!

When stadium collapse is not an option, U$C losing is a close second. The really sick thing is that Oregon just isn't a very good team. Even in this game, you could see some major issues. Chalk it up to 2020 I guess. Hopefully we can be much better than either of these teams tomorrow.

Oregon was probably playing at most like the third best team in the Pac-12 North. They discovered during the week that they would be in the Pac-12 CG and would have to play at the Pac-12 South team's stadium. Despite all of that the Pac-12 North's representative won the Pac-12 CG.
The Pac-12 North is now 9-1 in Pac-12 CGs. As a Stanford alum I feel it is important to apologize for our school's inability to make that 10-0. Still, it is time to start the narrative. Does USC have a Pac-12 North problem?
If USC had a credible shot at the CFP this would have been a crushing game for the conference. Thankfully, the CFP wasn't on the line so I was guilt-free and as happy as I could be watching SC do so much to lose that game.

Here's how I knew USC was a CFP pretender:
They needed an onside kick recovery to beat ASU.
They trailed Arizona with a minute left.
They beat Utah after playing those two games before Utah played any.
They played WSU after they had Covid issues.
They were outplayed by UCLA.
USC trailed with a minute left in 3/5 of their wins.
I LOL'd when I saw Bill Plaschke's absurd column this week whining that USC wasn't being considered for playoff.
But let's not pretend Oregon is some deserving champion either. Oregon lost to both Cal and Oregon State, teams Stanford beat, I might add. And, Stanford also beat Washington, the team that was suppose to be in the championship game for the North, that Oregon didn't even play. I'm not convinced Stanford wouldn't have beat Oregon and Colorado if Mills didn't have the Covid false positive.
Was Stanford really the best team in the Pac-12 this year and nobody knows it?

Conference full of mediocre teams?
The "best" one? Who knows? And who cares? (Certainly nobody outside the conference does).
Before you crown Stanford, you may want to await tomorrow's results.

I don't know how seriously I can take the results of the game between Stanford and UCLA. I didn't watch a second of the Pac-12 "Championship" game, so I don't think I will be watching any of the even less meaningless Stanford and UCLA either.

I'll have to admit I've thought the same thing when people have posted about how "meaningless" the season is because of the pandemic. If the season is so meaningless, why are you bothering to post about it?

Answer: To make the case for how fraudulent it is. If my posts can convince just one person not to take it seriously, who was before hand, my reason for being here will be accomplished.
There is no doubt in my mind we have no real idea who the true Pac-12 Champion of 2020 is, based on what I have pointed out. Never seen a competition so arbitrary and contrived in all my years of watching sports. I get Covid was a challenge, but that does not excuse how the Pac-12 bungled its 2020 football exhibition. Oregon only "won" because of Covid restrictions hitting other teams, and a whole mess of them were screwed as a result of it, none more than Stanford and Cal.
My punishment for the league is to pull all my support from watching any more games until 2021's regular season, and I hope more join me.

I agree that this season is mostly meaningless as far as proving anything goes. Hopefully younger players are getting experience and the good players will come back for another year.
So I understand that aspect. But its still Stanford football, and I wouldn't miss it.

I’m watching. Your “punishment “ serves no one. The players are putting it on the line. Watch for them. Who cares if it’s arbitrary. It’s sports. They are games. Nothing more.
And I didn’t realize I needed a “ reason for being here.“ I’ll try to think of one.

Yes sir! It could be an inter squad scrimmage and I would be watching. What the hell else are we doing? Watching pac12 replays from 2015? Watching the news on the impending end of the world? Debating politics on social media?
Yea, the pac 12 management is a major cluster truck, but Stanford stock value has risen tremendously with how they’ve handled such an adverse 2020. Even if we loose tonight and come out 3-3. Every day away from home, a walk through in a park that made national news, practicing at local high schools demonstrated that they were true to their mantra of “whatever it takes”. You’re mistaking if you don’t think recruits are paying attention.

Don’t knock the Food Network. Chopped. Triple DDD. Guy’s Grocery Games. Doesn’t get any better than that.... :).

Amen! All doubting and in-fighting aside on this board, you really have to hand it to the team for winning three straight on the road without ever coming back to campus. I doubt there are records, but would have to assume that's never been done before in college football....

San Jose State is undefeated this year and in SCC - doesn't that mean they also achieved the same feat (or did they have a Covid cancellation(?. Still, the point stands that the staff and team took the term Road Warriors to new heights. As for watching/rooting for them and the meaningfulness of the games, well, if you believe in the beauty of competition for competition's sake - and support the kids who are working hard and hopefully having fun doing so - then this season is as meaningful as any other . . . and as "meaningless" - if you're trying to put it in terms of "Things That Are Really Important in this World."
