Stanford QB Draft Trivia - Mick - 12-29-2020

Stanford has had 24 players listed as quarterbacks drafted by the NFL.  Name them.  And preferably in this order (# of QBs in parentheses):

1st pick of the draft/Voldemort winner (1):
1st pick of the draft/non-Voldemort winner (3):
Other 1st round selections (2)
Only 2nd round selection (1)
Rounds 3-5 (9)
Rounds 6 (1)
Round 9 (1)
Rounds 10-19 (5)
Mr. Irrelevant, round 27 (1)

And the bonus question: how many Stanford QBs made an NFL roster without being drafted as UDFAs, and who were they?

RE: Stanford QB Draft Trivia - BostonCard - 12-30-2020

Plunket is the first and Downtown Athletic Club trophy winner
Luck, Elway, and Garrett were the other first picks
I think Brodie and Albert were the other first round picks.  I thought Benjamin was also a first round pick, but maybe he's the answer to the next question.
For 3-5, the ones that come to mind are Hogan, Edwards, Fasani, Husak and Stenstrom

Dils and Schonert, too. Wow, when checking the spelling, didn't realize that Turk passed away last year. Perhaps the last pick, see that he went in the 9th round. . . .

John Paye was drafted by the Niners.

Chad Hutchinson was drafted by MLB, but not NFL. Signed as a free agent by Dallas; one of a very few people who played in both MLB and NFL.

Kerkorian is in there somewhere. Does Thurlow count? Don Bunce. Mike Boryla, Scott Frost, Mike Cordova, Jesse Freitas, Dick Norman.

Dave Lewis.

Gene Washington.

Gustafson (49ers)?

RE: Stanford QB Draft Trivia - Phogge - 12-30-2020

Gustafson alternated with Brodie in ‘55. He was the QB in the huuuuuuuuge upset of Ohio State and Hopalong Cassady. The Joe Long game.

Brodie and Albert first rounders. Who drafted Albert?? :)

Thurlow was a high pick but as a RB

Washington a first round pick as a WR

RE: Stanford QB Draft Trivia - Phogge - 12-30-2020

Yeah Bobbbbb but he asked the question in a way that it might have included the other guys. When the Bengals selected Lewis I believe it was more for his punting ability. And he played a few games at QB for Cincy.

By Big Game '66 Lewis was back at QB as Washington was tried at HB and WR.

Thurlow was the starter at QB until Clark Weaver took over.

Chad Hutchinson wasn't drafted into the NFL, but had a three year career there.

FWLIW, Bobby Grayson was an All-American quarterback in 1934 and an All American halfback in 1935, who was drafted as a halfback in 1935 by the Steelers. He went into private business instead.

RE: Stanford QB Draft Trivia - BobK - 12-30-2020

So folks who drafted Frankie Albert ?

Dr Dick Horn is a big WVB fan. Season ticket holder
Hope still is

RE: Stanford QB Draft Trivia - Phogge - 12-30-2020

Grayson was called a QB but actually played tailback in the single wing and in the double wing which Pop Warner invented. Same reason that Billy Kilmer is listed at quarter for UCLA. The actual signal caller in the single wing was the blocking back who played in the backfield usually right behind the guard/tackle split. He hardly ever touched the ball.

And Frankie Albert... drifted by the Bears but signed with the AAFC Niners.
