Here's an article bemoaning the firing of the Texas coach and briging in Sark.
Doesn't really tell us much we didn't already know about how college football works among the big boys.

i really hope Texas knows what they're doing.
but maybe i shouldn't.......we don't need any more competition for Texas high school athletes.

I don't think Texas has won any recruiting battles against Stanford...yet.

Is there a single school that if all things were equal would hire Sark over Herman? LMAO other than Texas

At least one Texas signee with a Stanford offer every year throughout Shaw's tenure. Though notably we do sign multiple kids from the state every year, and occasionally one has a Texas offer himself.

Sark gets a second chance to be a HC...makes me wonder what the hell happened with Turley (five minutes of *intense* google searching gives me no info on any post-Stanford career).

$24,000,000 buyout. $15 for Herman. $9 for the staff

Just read the Forde piece. Totally spot on.
Did Stanford lose any admitted recruits to Texas that might not go along now that Herman is gone?

Samuel - any assistant coaches you think might be a fit at Stanford?

hard to ignore how good Sark's offenses have been while he has had the reins in T-town. 48ppg this year is pretty impressive (only 20 points or so more per game than Stanford this year). Sark has also recruited TX well -- this year Alabama signed 7 4-star or better recruits from the state, including 2 5-stars. this load is roughly equal to the number of 4-stars or better than all the TX schools have inked so far. Herman worn out a number of the t-sip fans I know. they had high hopes for Herman after the disappointment of Charlie Strong but Herman in their eyes ended up closer to a Mackovic than to a Royal.

Jeremy Pruitt's defense at Alabama led the nation in scoring defense and rushing defense, and was ranked second in total defense. His 2017 Alabama defensive unit finished the regular season ranked second in total defense and first in scoring defense. He was hired at Tennessee in 2018, where he has subsequently gone 16-19 (10-16 in the SEC).
Jim McElwain was offensive coordinator at Alabama 2008 to 2011. After a stop at Colorado State, he was hired to coach Florida, where he was fired after a 3-4 start to the 2017 season. His overall record was not bad, but his offenses were ranked 111th, 116th, and 112th (at the time of his firing). His teams only scored 30 or more points seven times in two-plus years.
And, of course there is the cautionary tale of one Eugene Francis "Buddy" Teevens III, who was nominally the offensive coordinator for Steve Spurrier. We all know how that turned out.
Texas will of course have high hopes that Sarkisian will reignite their recruiting and their offense.

I've watched very little Bama football since Sark has been OC. How much of their offensive success has been scheme versus talent?
The other question is whether TX has the talent to execute the scheme.

brobdingnagian amount of talent no doubt plus they use scheme to actually get WRs open. great route tree diversity as well.
I imagine it was tough to be a Tua or a Mac when you only have a couple 1st round WRs (plus RB) to work with behind a very good OL.

That seems about right to me. (I'm more engaged as a Texas fan than a Stanford fan.) The prevailing idea was that Herman was a stunningly bad game day coach. He obviously did really well in the relaxed atmosphere of the Alamo Bowl, but even more so than the close one's he lost, Herman really lost some head scratchers. During his tenure, Texas had some physically incredible teams, but could not get consistent. This while over at OU (and A&M as well), those coaches won every game they were supposed to win.
