MBB: NCAA moves entire tournament in Indianapolis - BostonCard - 01-04-2021

Plan is for a bubble (of sorts):

Of course, I don't think we are projecting as a tournament team right now, so it might be moot.

We aren’t? ;)
My Cardinal-tinted glasses say we are (if we can stay healthy—admittedly a big IF).

Not they will use IU and Purdue arenas as well as 4 in Indianapolis.

Division 2 and 3 tournaments will also be played in the state.

Yes, that’s what I was referring to. I’m hoping we get them both back sooner rather than later.

They should play the Final Four in Butler Field House and invite Hackman to introduce the teams. But the old farts who run the NCAA would never do it.

If attendance is limited, no reason they couldn't do that.

Assume the bracket looks like the 2019 tournament, where #1 plays #16 in a "region," and the winner plays the winner of #8 vs #9.

If  #1 beats #16 and #8 beats #9, but before the #1 vs #8 match, #1 has a player who tests positive (with enough others being close contacts so #1 can't play), what happens?  Does #8 get a bye into the 3rd round?   Does #16 get a second chance? (presumably not, as they were exposed)   (Do remember that the CDC considers a cumulative 15 minutes as an exposure.)

If #1 beats #16, but then #16 gets a starter testing positive that day or next day, do the close contact protocols require quarantine & prevent #1 from playing?  Or, will the NCAA stop testing players once their team (#16) loses to avoid a situation where it could have been known that players (on #1) were exposed?

Anyone who thinks the basketball games are played safely must not believe masks are necessary.  (Some) Coaches & refs pull their masks down to talk to players. (Loud talking generates 50x the droplets of simply breathing.)   (Some) Players on the sidelines keep their masks off or pull them down to talk/yell.    Reminds me of the dry grassy meadows in the California fall - only safe as long as fire isn't present.
