WBB: Stanford 72 Colorado 77 OT -
81alum - 01-16-2021
Preview:
In her press conference after the Utah win, Tara would not comment on Jones's absence, so we don't have any idea whether she will be available to play against Colorado. She did comment on Colorado's rebounding--apparently rebounding will be a point of emphasis for this game, since Colorado is very good at it.
Colorado is 5-6, but is 5-2 at home where we will play them. They beat Utah by 30 points, so I expect a tougher game than Friday. Last year Colorado really had our number. The first game ended in overtime, which we won, and the game at Colorado ended on Kiana's amazing 40' heave for the win. We could quite easily have lost either or both of those two games.
Colorado is led by Mya Hollingshed, who we have seen before--but she has had a Belibi-like transformation, and apparently is a far better player than in previous seasons. This 6'3" senior forward is averaging 15 pts, 9 rebounds, and a boat load of blocks. Last year she scored 19 against us in the second game.
An unfamiliar player is their second leading scorer. Frida Formann, a 5'11" freshman guard from Denmark, takes more than half of her shots from three point range and makes 37% of them. This complements the inside game of Hollingshed quite well. She averages 11 ppg.
Jaylyn Sherrod is a 5'7" sophomore guard, also scoring in double digits but is more of a slasher, taking few three pointers.
Peanut Tuitele and Aubrey Knight are more familiar names--juniors--a forward and a guard who have a lot of experience playing against us.
Sherrod, Tuitele, and Hollingshed all had good games against us a year ago. Colorado out rebounded us in the first game and our teams were tied in rebounds in the second.

Oh yeah, I remember Sherrod from last year's games. She was phenomenal.

My cable guide now shows WSU at UCLA on all PAC-12 regions including Bay Area. I haven't seen anything indicating the Stanford game is cancelled. I hope my cable guide is incorrect. I know Cal/Utah was cancelled.
Iowa State beat #6 Baylor.

It’s been showing that since yesterday... I don’t think the game has been postponed or canceled since Stanford tweeted the game info and Britney also tweeted it’s game day!

Confirmed on Twitter. Wonder what Utah was about then.
Looking forward to a good game!

Nice start 8-0. Lexie got 6 of them. Love this team.
Poor finish in the 1st for Stanford. We lead 17-14, but we've let CO back into the game with turnovers, missed shots, and defensive mistakes.

After a 8-0 start with a couple of good defensive stops, Colorado outscores us 14-9 the rest of the way in the first quarter to end the first ten minutes on a 17-14 Stanford lead.
We need to watch out for Colorado's penchant to poke away the ball while we are dribbling & driving. They came up with a couple steals as one of our players drove into traffic.
Our offensive rebounding helped us with at least 6 second chance points there.
Great to see Cameron with a 3-pointer; I am waiting for that facet of her game to emerge and once it does, she will be a threat on all levels

We're playing sloppy. Brink with a foolish foul around mid-court, but she's got 7 points in just a few minutes.
We've got a 3 point lead at the half 32-29. We've only made 2 of 9 from outside the arc. CO is 4-7 from 3.
RE: WBB: Stanford @ Colorado ON NOW PAC-12 BAY AREA -
TheFarm07 - 01-17-2021
We are up 32-29 thanks to a late Prechtel three pointer. Even though we are shooting at a fairly good clip at 48%, for some reason, it doesn't feel like our offense is in high gear yet. It seems just a little off right now with some poor decision making (bad shot selection and turnovers). Lexie had to sit with 2 fouls but Brink has 7 points off the bench and Prechtel has 5.
Hollingshed is 3/4 from long range for Colorado.
On paper, we should have a bigger lead with our shooting percentage (though we are 2/9 from long range), limiting Colorado to 1 offensive rebound and just having 6 turnovers, but we are up by only three.

Really threes are the difference right now. You nailed it on Hollingshed’s. We did to start maybe ours abd hopefully we did with Pretchtel’s three
