Catarina Macario Is Just Getting Started
Quote:If Macario’s rise continues, and if she can beat out a who’s who of more experienced players — Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, Rose Lavelle, Tobin Heath, Christen Press, Lynn Williams — for a place in the American attack, she could be headed to the Olympics by July, and to a World Cup by 2023.

She's just so darn fun to watch.
It's going to be well-nigh impossible for Vlatko to leave off Rapinoe and Lloyd, assuming they're both healthy. (And that also assumes Macario is primarily a forward, though she's in the current camp as a midfielder and I think playmaking attacking midfielder is where she'd fit best.) The team seems optimistic that both Heath and Ertz will be healthy for the Olympics, and if they are, they're going.
It's hard to imagine Macario being left off the roster, but at the same time, I don't see how Vlatko leaves off a legend gunning for Olympic Gold in her last major tournament, either.

Um . . . how about because Macario is better than both old timers?
Actually, you could be right because Rapinoe started when better players were reserves (at least my take).
And I have a soft spot for Rapinoe (despite the comments above). Always have.
