RIP Keith Jones - Spiny_Norman - 01-29-2021

This is so very sad. Keith Jones was a mainstay on the Stanford basketball team from 1980-84. He had a lightning-quick first step and a sweet 15 foot jumper. He also had a sense of fun that made him a great teammate and a joy to watch. Just an all-around great guy. In 2013, he was inducted in the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame. From the comments in the obit, it seems that he remained the same person through his life whom I knew at Stanford. May he rest in peace and may his memory always be a blessing.

Sad. Had no idea his wife had died. Alison Selleck was the daughter of Stanford basketball Hall of Famer George.

Keith was a great great player so much fun to watch

I'm very saddened by this. I never met Keith, but he was a senior in my freshman year. A great part of my expectations for college was going to sporting events and becoming a die-hard fanatic.

Keith Jones was the catalyst in my becoming a lifelong Stanford basketball fanatic as he was the superstar on the team. Really enjoyed watching him and cheering for him.

RIP Stanford legend

His career coincided with my college years.  Always loved watching him play, particularly our senior year.  RIP, Keith.

Oh no.
He was like the Pied Piper as his dorm room often had younger kids hanging out. People just gravitated to him. And he had that laugh... Rest In Peace KJ.

Very sad. He was only 58 -- much too young.

The video doesn’t work for me anymore. (It did when it was first uploaded.)

Today would’ve been his 59th birthday.
:(

My law school buddies and I LOVED Keith Jones. He and John Ravelli were our big weapons in our three years (though we were gone before Keith's senior year).

In those days, there weren't many fans in Maples. One of my buddies was a full throated New Yorker who could definitely make himself heard over the (non) crowd. He would shout "Listen to me, Keith, not the coach. Drive the ball. Don't pass it."

We loved watching him play. We didn't win much in those days, but Keith Jones alone made it worthwhile to trek over to Maples. [Ravelli was great, too. But Keith had more flash.]

I've been to his deli and liked it enough to go back the next day, though I had no idea it was his. Wish I would have, as I would have told him how much fun he helped us have back in the day.

RIP, Keith. We love ya.

Mizzou, your story reminds me of my high school days in Madison, WI, where my parents had become college hockey fans. The UW team was playing in a small arena on our side of town, and the program was new and didn’t have a whole lot of fans. We were told that the UW players learned to recognize my mother’s voice when they’d be down a guy and she’d yell “ICE IT!!!”
