Lack of practice time is evident. We've got some exciting young players, but obviously they need more court time together.

I don't know but it is a PAC-12 rule all WVB players must wear a mask at all times on the court.

I'm not drawing any conclusions from this match. Here are my observations for this moment in time only.
Passing not good. Blocking really not good. Berty not good. Setting not as good as I would have expected.

Ouch, lots of ugly volleyball. They look like a team full of newbies who have barely practiced and are missing their only experienced player (and I assume best passer) playing a team who has weeks more practice time and four games on them. I don't think we are going to come back and win this... Hope to be very wrong.

I recall having read somewhere that VB is classified as a non-close contact sport and that if the players wear masks, the testing requirements are not as strict.

First match with only 8 players is a tough ask, but....

Well that was really tough to watch. Just have to look for signs of improvement until the team is back at full strength. Even then, it will be a work in progress. I'm trying to think of this part of the season like spring training in baseball. It's all about signs of potential and progress. I honestly said to my wife that it looked like a split squad spring game at the very beginning of the match when I was trying to figure out who was on the court. The quality of play was split squad quality. It showed most in the lack of timing and coordination in our block and other defense. It also showed in our passing which was really off. Only thing to do is keep grinding through it.

That's gotta be one of the worst beatdowns we've suffered in a while. Not just 3-0, but 25-17, 25-16, 25-14. In a word, ouch.

Well two starters are out for the year probably. Both the MBers. Third starter out McClure and our Frosh who would have played back row 1/2 the game also out.
Team has 13 players 8 made the trip.

The match from Arizona's perspective. This tells you what a debacle it was for Stanford. Not just a loss: a disastrous loss.

Here are some excerpts:
For the first time in 16 years, Arizona defeated Stanford at home, sweeping the defending national champion and seventh-ranked Cardinal (25-17, 25-16, 25-14).
The commanding victory was not only rare, but it was completely unprecedented. On Friday, Arizona became the first team ever to defeat Stanford in straight sets while holding the Cardinal to fewer than 20 points in every set since rally scoring was introduced in NCAA Volleyball in 2001.
Arizona was better offensively, defensively, from the service line and everywhere in between.
Hopefully McClure is back next weekend. Without her passing Stanford is going nowhere. No one on the team demonstrated any ability to pass last night. That will improve but I don't know by how much.
Also the freshman DS Lougeay may help with passing.
