Fantastic that Kiana, Lexie, Cam received that recognition. And I'm very happy for Kiana that she was named the MOP. She hasn't been adequately appreciated by the media, etc. But I actually think that, if I'm being honest with myself, that Dana Evans equally deserved that. She was amazing in both her games. If Louisville had won, I have no doubt that she would have been named MOP.

Agree about Evans. I thought she was a bit overrated before we faced her, but she deserves all her accolades and then some. And she has a complete game. I'm sure if you ask Anna she would say that this was by far her most difficult matchup.

That last three that Evans hit was just....sick.

Lexie kept grinding, and that kept the team in the game during the first half of woe. Glad to see her recognized.

RE: WBB: Alamo Region All-Tournament Team - Blue Hawk (Mizzou) Card - 03-31-2021

I am probably alone in this thinking, but I have always thought "all tournament" teams, as opposed to season-long all conference and all American teams, should have a spot for the player who had a brobdingnagian impact on the outcome of the tournament, especially if it was unexpected. Under that thinking, I would have Ashten Prechtel on that team. I don't see how we win that game yesterday without her (though, of course, she did not win it alone).

Admittedly, she did not have eight quarters of top of the line play, because she played sparingly. But her two quarters yesterday had a brobdingnagian impact on the outcome of the regional. [Reminded me of that guy from Fordham back in the 1980s who we Stanford fans fell in love while we waited for Michael Jordan's UNC team to play Stanford. That day, and probably only that day, he probably outscored Michael Jordan. For a feat like that, he should have been on the all tournament team. Indeed, he might have been.]

I have no real complaints about the all-regional team, as all members are deserving (though I would have probably had Louisville's and Stanford's point guards as co-MOPs). But a big part of me thinks Ashten Prechtel deserves to have a line on her resume saying "2021 Alamo Regional All Tournament Team."

Maybe she will earn a distinction like that in some future regional.

Our region looks well deserved to me.

The Hemisfaire region looks pretty lopsided though I did not follow it closely.  Interesting that Amihere got included ahead of a couple of South Carolina starters.

I'd make an argument for Prechtel as well - she delivered some nails.

BTW - the Fordham player was Jerry Hobbie  - I still remember the 6th Man club engulfing the guy after he came back into Maples after showering up. Man, that 83-84 UNC club was loaded - MJ, Kenny Smith, Sam Perkins, Brad Daugherty, Matt Doherty - though it flamed out in the tourney that season.  But back to it - Great job, Ashten and let's GO, ladies!

RE: WBB: Alamo Region All-Tournament Team - WBB fan - 03-31-2021

For a player like Prechtel who was so crucially impactful in one game, they need a special category -- maybe "Game Changing Impact Player" -- she certainly would deserve that!

Why wait for a future regional? I may be mistaken, but I think they’re going to play again this coming weekend...

Was it called the 6th man club back then?  I thought it was started in the 90's.

Hemisfair Region ***********************************

4 out of 5 are from South Carolina? That's impressive.

Good point - not exactly sure what it may have been called. It was a bit more of a disorganized mosh pit at times back then....

RE: WBB: Alamo Region All-Tournament Team - PVTree - 03-31-2021

During my Stanford years, mid 80s, the term "6th man" was in use.

The term has been around for a while (as has "12th man" in football), but I think the 6th man club as a formal organization was started by Jaimie Zaninovich when he was an associate athletic director at Stanford.

Perhaps some sort of plaque with quotes from the Louisville press conference is in order. Hard to believe any designation by some committee would be more meaningful than the respect Prechtel got from the opposing team.

at times during the DiBiaso Daze, 6th man may have been closer discriptor of attendance than cheering mosh pit.

Agreed. I can't recall any opposing players or coach speaking of their opponent's player with such high praise.

I've long disliked Walz (story to tell you in person), but that press conference sure made me respect him a bit.
