RIP Robby Beyers - Phogge - 04-17-2021

For six seasons ‘77-82 I shot sideline footage for Stanford commercials and recruiting films often next to Robby. He was a whirling dervish with cameras strapped everywhere and one always at his eye. He wore an old yellow Stanford T shirt with more holes than fabric. I wager that he’s in hundreds of takes from my band and game footage. His dad ran the university press office back when they were very cooperative.

I noticed him in a wheel chair in 2018 and from my 20 year experience with Charlie Wedemeyer surmised his condition.

His obit is in today’s SF Gate. God Bless.

I had seen his name many times over the years, usually related to photos of the LSJUMB. I had no idea that he was a material scientist and a patent attorney with five degrees from two universities. ALS is a terrible disease and in this case it took a brilliant mind from us too soon. I tip my cap to Beyers for how he contributed to science and learning until the very end by participating in a study at UC San Francisco involving the mapping of brainwaves to help develop alternative communication technologies for people with debilitating medical conditions.

Sorry to read this. I knew his parents.

This is wonderful!  Thanks for posting!

I don't own a lot of Stanford gear, but I'll get one of these and send the link to my friends.
