Sad fact is that for the conference to regain prominence again USC must become a monster. It’s the only program that can excite the east of the Mississippi crowd. Oregon would have to win an NC to accomplish same.

Not to mention west of the Mississippi.  Oregon, UW and USC are about the only programs that have consistently large crowds (when allowed). And SC and UW prob only two with large followings. Maybe Oregon.  The rest - not much.

Another problem is High School football participation on the west coast is way down.

When will "crowds" be permitted again?

The only crowded spot currently are The Pearly Gates.

FWIW, through 5 rounds, Stanford has the most players drafted.

5 - Stanford
4 - Washington
4 - USC
3 - Oregon

If you think the P12 is suffering in the draft, what about the Big 12? No selections at all in the first round. Only 6 through 3 rounds. North Dakota State had 2 players selected before anyone was picked from Oklahoma, the B12 champs.

USC doesn’t need to be a monster but someone does. What gets the conference credit is to have a or multiple dominant teams. The ACC isn’t great, but Clemson is. Right now the pac 12 has few doormats but no elite team, which is the big issue.
