Re: What\'s next - bpower - 06-16-2010

I suggest we just charge it to Phil Knight\'s tab; he wouldn\'t even notice.

"Oh, sir, sorry, cost overruns on Matthew Knight Boondoggle Arena.  Couldn\'t be helped."

We can just re-brand the Buffs with more swooshes.

Quote:Here\'s an interesting piece rounding up some of the scheduling/divisional/post-season possibilities for a Pac-11/12. One horrifying revelation: The Pac-10 may be on the hook for some of the $10 million exit fee Colorado has to pay the Big 12...most of which, apparently, will go to Texas. Next person to congratulate Larry Scott for "thinking outside the box" gets a slap in the mouth.

http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/10504/so-whats-next-with-pac-10-expansion

$10 million is not on the table and there are no "exit fees" or "penalties" in the Big 12 bylaws.  Each season the big12 awards a pot of cash to member schools based on how many times you are on TV and what that game is worth.  In the case of Colorado you give 12-18 months notice of intention to leave you forfeit 50% of that cash.  Back in 2008 when we were a bigger draw than we are today we made around 9.7million from that TV deal.  So next year we\'ll be due for about the same, maybe less considering how much we suck.  Of that potential pot totaling say $9million, half will be kept by the Big 12 instead of paid to us.  The year after that being 2011 is still very much in question, the huskers are gone from the big12 by then.  The rest of the league seems intent on forcing us out, in which case they\'d forfeit any claim to any exit withholding for that year.

What none of this answers though are 2 legal issues that Nebraska is suing over: the with holdings are only provided for in the case that we damage the conference by leaving, if Beebe\'s mythical TV deal exists we\'d both owe nothing.  Secondly the with holding is only provided for if we left voluntarily which Nebraska argues was not the case, UT and the south wanted to force NU, CU, MU to commit to the big12 without doing so themselves effectively forcing us to choose between something that didn\'t exist or very certain secondary offers.

Seems like you guys are pretty anti-Scott but I from where I sit I can\'t see anyway that the universities in the pac-10 would have to pay a dime of a withholding imposed on CU.  On the brighter side you also picked up a conference championship game and two new TV markets. I\'d be surprised even if the Big12 managed to exact the fake penalty from pac-10 schools costing you each 1mm if you didnt make that back 5 or 6 times over in the first year of the new conference.

Hey, look!  Two guys debating w/ actual FACTS - Redrum - 06-16-2010

Who\'da thunk that would ever happen?

Ummmm, welcome to the board, Absinthe

FWLIW,  the Cardboard is a not the mainstream Scout/Rivals type of board.  Started by dissidents more than a decade ago,  it has been growing steadily,  powered mainly by thoughtful, expressive posters. And then, there\'s me, too.   Anyway, if your taste runs to the more common abusive, chest-beating, ego-driven type of discourse that is the staple of many conferences and websites, well,  we ain\'t that.

BUT, you\'re welcome because CU will be one of the siblings soon enough.  We know little enough about the strength and trajectory of your programs.  You might gather that enthusiasm for CU as the lone transferee is kinda mixed among the Pac-10 and among people on this board.  Part of that is the whole dashed-hopes thing,  but in time you\'ll be just another team in the mix.  Hope you guys are pumped about the change.

And, for the Official FIRST QUESTION:

Dan Hawkins, will he survive to coach a game in the Pac-10/11/12?  Or is he even now being fitted for his explosive career suicide vest?

Re: What\'s next - BobK - 06-16-2010

Looks like Colo will play with the LA and AZ schools while Stanford was Chamberlained to the NW.    However I just read this story, which gives me hope for the future beaches or the Pac 12.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/06/12/v-fullstory/1677370/ixtoc-offshore-well-gulfs-other.html#ixzz0r33SN9oe

Meanville Stanford seems to be moving to the NW with cal to form the little pac 6.

Screw Colorado

Based on the few sources I have he will only survive the season if he wins 8 or more games, so I am hopeful we are done with him because I cant see that happening. That said I\'d bet a good chunk of money on our administration backing down and keeping him around if we go bowling.

As for your board\'s history I am one of the admins on CU\'s largest independent message board, and we share much the same ethos and a similar history.  Scout/rivals are nice but it is good to have a non-commercial entity as a resource and gathering spot for our fans.  Stop by if you feel so inclined: http://www.allbuffs.com

I realize the name is slightly less witty than yours.

Re: What\'s next - Beeg_Dawg - 06-16-2010

allbuffs.com?  Isn\'t that a portal for Nudist Colony timeshares?

Just so you know, I am not one of the "thoughtful, expressive posters"
Redrum mentioned.

Just another drive by poster.  :)

Re: What\'s next - fullmetal - 06-16-2010

BeegDawg may not slavishly post every day on this site, but BD\'s posts on certain subjects carry great weight.

The rest of us post in spray and pray fashion.  Well, maybe just me.

I\'m with garvin though--Stanford losing the LA schools means losing revenue and exposure, plain and simple.  The football team rocketed to recent prominence with victories over USC, and I\'d like to keep that streak going...

As for other sports, WVB won\'t get a chance to test out the talent of the LA schools, which is always a big issue when it comes to preparation for postseason play.  Basketball could be an issue too.

Re: What\'s next - washingtonismoney - 06-17-2010

Surely we can play every other team in basketball--it just won\'t be the traditional home-and-away that\'s such a great feature of basketball.

Absinthe...

I was gonna say don\'t believe it.  It won\'t be long until they turn on ya...

But then, very next post

So forget it...

oski is a graduate of our hated rival,  Kal.   How much do we hate them?  Glad you asked.  We hate them SO much that our software won\'t even allow us to spell out the name K-a-l.   Seriously.  "Kalibrate".  See?

So when he warns you that we will turn on you he\'s being a bit disingenuous.  When it comes to rivals,  we know where our pole star is.  Oski, himself, is an all right guy.  He just made one bad mistake in his youth and has been paying for it ever since.   Imagine going through life chalking up one year after another of NOT going to the Rose Bowl.  Two generations have passed since their last appearance there.  The despair (fixed spelling) is corrosive,  so he vents,  trying to convince you that we hate Colorado as much as we hate Kal.   Nice try, oski.  Not even close.  ;D

Re: What\'s next - Leftcoast - 06-17-2010

I beg to differ - we LOVE c.al.

We love them fried.   We love them pureed.   We love them julienned and we love them chopped into small pieces and used as marinade.  We love them mashed, kneaded and, of course, pulped.

Actually, skip all that.   What we really want is to see them BEATEN in late November.  We need to do that much, much more often.

Re: What\'s next - Pastor - 06-17-2010

Oh Lefty, you are so Hannibal (don\'t you like them with Fava beans and a nice chianti?)....although I understand that unlike trout, they\'re awfully hard to clean.

I grew up in the bay area so I know the rivalry well, our animosity towards Nebraska is similar.

Re: What\'s next - oski79 - 06-17-2010

I rest my case.
