Hard to believe he was denied bail for a burglary charge. Do they think he will flee the country over this?
I guess someone thinks he may return to the scene of the crime and cause more trouble. IMO that's unlikely.

It appears to be more than burglary--the charge is "burglary domestic violence," so I would imagine it's the latter two words that are the more important ones here.

Quote:Free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman was booked at 6:08 a.m. local time Wednesday at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle and is being investigated for burglary domestic violence, according to public records.
Records state he was denied bail, but a spokesman for the Redmond (Washington) Police Department told ESPN that is standard procedure for suspects of domestic violence until they can appear before a judge.

Not a good look for him. Also, I don't think domestic violence cases are eligible for diversion programs.

Per, Pro Football Report: Typically, the notion of “burglary domestic violence” refers to someone entering or refusing to leave a house or dwelling within the context of a domestic dispute. For example, someone who gets locked out of a house during a argument with a spouse or significant other and then breaks in potentially has committed “burglary domestic violence.

Thank you, Donkey687. I see no benefit to speculating at this point. Sherman has been a wonderful representative of Stanford and the NFL and until given evidence to the contrary I am going to give him benefit of the doubt.

Resisting the arrest as was reported in the ESPN article, wasn't smart, if true.
Shocking to read Sherman arrested and charged with anything. There may be a reasonable explanation, but "nothing good happens after 2am" should always moderate the behavior of someone with sound judgment.

This. According to one article, in the state of Washington you are automatically denied bail on a domestic violence charge until you appear before a judge.
Also, this charge apparently is a felony.

Resisting arrest is a standard charge cops throw at people all the time if they dare to not grovel at the cops' feet. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't.
I'll wait patiently for more information to come out before I jump to conclusions.

I’ve known a lot of people who’ve done stupid stuff. Heck, I’ve represented some of those people in related civil cases. To my knowledge, I don’t know *anyone* who’s been charged with resisting arrest. It ain’t that common.
Edit: It’s possible I live in a bubble of mostly upper middle class white people:

Sounds like an argument where he wouldn't leave his own home. While it should be taken seriously, I imagine that this will all go away in short order. The hit and run doesn't involve another vehicle.

LOL, I've been charged with resisting arrest multiple times. I didn't do anything stupid, I just stood up to thug cops. Well, I guess that can be stupid in a society where cops have broad latitude to violate people's rights. But it's not illegal.

Does "hit and run" necessarily involve a person? Could hit and run mean running over a hydrant, damaging it, and taking off? This could then be resolved monetarily.

Looks like it did not involve anyone else.

Well now he looks like the perfect player to join the Cowboys!
But seriously, this is really terrible especially for the mother of his children (presumably that's who he was going after) and maybe the kids themselves too. Sorry but I don't have a lot of pity for Sherman. He's too smart to being doing something this obviously dumb.

SMDH. You don't even know what he did.

What is clear is that little is clear about what transpired. What little is clear is that Sherman had a blood alcohol level that was above the maximum allowable to be driving, and that he seriously damaged his car by hitting a barrier. My expectation is that those charges will remain in place. The other charges may or may not stick around, depending on the actual facts and whether the local DA thinks he can get a conviction and whether the DA thinks doing so is warranted. I suspect he will not think it is warranted, but the actual facts may change that. I am pretty sure that Sherman is very disappointed in himself, and if he isn't, that is also an issue.

He did enough that we're here talking about it, as is the national press.
