Women’s Golf - BobK - 07-16-2021

Rose Zhang , incoming Frosh, is in the semifinals of the US JR tournament and presently up 2 after 9 holes.

Too 20 holes but Zhang won her semi. Finals tomorrow morning.

Not sure how many USGA Junior champions have played for Stanford. I know of only one - Kay Cornelius. She won in 1981 at age 14, and held the record as the youngest winner for quite some time - until 1999 I think.

it looks like Zhang won.  down 2 after 10, won 11-13, lost 17 then won on the second extra hole.  one birdie and 19 pars.  She will play Bailey Davis, a Virginia commit and WAGR 952, in the finals.

Mickey Wright (1952 champ) attended Stanford and played on what may have been the first women's golf team.

Zhang also tied the Championship record with a 62 in round 2 of stroke play.

play is currently suspended now due to weather, but Zhang is 5 up after 31.  she was 6 under for the first 18.    assuming she and heck don't pro, we should have a heckuva team the next few years.

Zhang won 6 and 4!

We can come back to it in a few weeks when the US Women's Amateur begins on August 2. But Stanford will be well represented. All of these 5 have qualified:
Rose Zhang
Rachel Heck
Brooke Seay
Aline Krauter
Lei (Angelina) Ye

Also qualifying is 2022 commit Megha Ganne.

These amateur match play events are grueling. If you make the finals, you've played 9 rounds in 6 days - and that doesn't include a Monday practice round
