Video of Shaw taking questions from reporters after the first day of practice. Talked about the overall health of the team, the best it has been in years especially at oline and inside linebackers. Starting QB still to be determined and Fisk will spend most of fall practice working with the defense in order to catch up.

QB still a "TBD"??? Hmm. Weren't we being sold on McKee as The Next Big Thing? Guess that isn't working out. Or maybe the $9MM coach is encouraging competition?

Sam is all knowing, all seeing. He says McKee so it will be McKee.
You never know. In '55 Brodie, as a junior, split time with Gustafson. And anyway it's about time Brodie made the PFHOF.

rode my bike through campus ~11am and saw the team practicing, mostly walking through plays....

Do they have a protective force field around their crystal middle linebackers?

not much to report, I was there maybe five minutes and they were literally walking through plays, no helmets or pads given it was the second (?) practice of the preseason

When you immediately tell all our opponents who the starting QB is, they will prepare for him exclusively.

That's one way to look at it. My glasses aren't so rose-colored. If McKee isn't the clear starter - given the mediocrity of the competition (and that's being generous to West) - that's a reason for concern.
You should be going into fall practice with your No. 1 clearly identified so that they can maximize time with the first-string receivers. Instead the two of them are going to split reps.

When was the last time Stanford named the starting QB before Fall practice when there wasn't a returning starter?

Not really. You may know, and the whole team may know, who the starter will be and who gets 90% of the reps. That doesn't mean you have to declare it so to the press.

Has Shaw ever done that before? I don't recall

This season Pac-12 teams forfeit any games that can't be played due to Covid. That is forfeit as in that game goes in the loss column and the opponent gets the game in the win column.
Please notify by PM if this is not allowed due to being Covid related and I will delete.
Certainly football-related, but not exactly "Start of Stanford Fall Football Practice" related.
