Cross Country starts soon - BobK - 08-19-2021

I think no schedule yet but the roster now posted
5 of the top 6 Women return. The loss is big Donaghu. She turned pro after the track season. And graduated

We have a grad Transfer although she’s really good at 800/1500.

The Women won the Pac 12 and 3rd in the NCAAs

The Men return 6 of the top 7. Parsons being the loss. Also have a Grad Transfer although I can’t find out much about him.
The Men won the Pac-12. And were 5th in the NCAA.

If healthy both teams are Potential NCAA champs

The new men's grad transfer, Nick Feffer, appears to be better suited for T&F as an 800/1500 guy than for XC. FWIW, he has PRs of 1:52 and 3:54.

I don't know, 1:52 puts him 4 seconds behind McGorty and 3:54 is not all that fast.  It could be that he lacks the speed for the shorter distances but has the endurance to move out to the longer distances like in Cross Country.  I hope he does well and has a good year at whatever distance he runs.

RE: Cross Country starts soon - BobK - 08-20-2021

That’s McGorty’s HS time.
Thanks Bl82

RE: Cross Country starts soon - BobK - 08-20-2021

Not XC but the World JRs going on now and two Stanford athletes are excelling.

Udodi Onwuzrike had the top 200 qualifing time of 20.47 a new PR

Soph Ellie Deligianni 2:05.38 in her heat

RE: Cross Country starts soon - bl82 - 08-20-2021

Well the only T&F race longer than a mile was an 8:48 in the 3000 from 2017. The XC times and places are way more Ivy pedestrian than top tier D1. My guess is that he was probably coming to here for grad school and decided to continue to compete, with the T&F/XC as more of an afterthought.

RE: Cross Country starts soon - BobK - 08-20-2021

Stanford has 5 really good Frosh Men on the XC team. Given so many returnees who ran in the NCAAs last season plus a couple non Frosh who could contribute it’s a wait and see if the Frosh run or are redshirted

Udodi just ran 20.13 in the semis. Who has run faster at Stanford? No one

Aragon and Heymach are both back. If they stick around for track season I'll take it.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed someone's meteoric rise as much as what Heymach did last year.  Really looking forward to see how much she can improve in the coming year!

Wow - that's fast. His semi time of 21.13 was faster than James Lofton's SU record time as well - he'll be fun to watch!

Too much wind on the 20.13. 20.33 is Lofton's record.

Would have placed him 4th in the 200 meters at this year's NCAA championship.
