Anybody see any ponies in that pile of manure? -

I didn't and I tried. Seriously. This was worse than even I had imagined. Yes, there were some respectable moments and efforts. But, overall, this
SUCKED. Big time. Eerily reminiscent of Wlat games, 2006. We'll know more, I guess, after Vandy.

Well, I don't remember any serious injuries???

I actually thought the defense was marginally better than I had expected. Offense was considerably worse. I didn't think our OL would get outplayed as badly as they did. Didn't think McKee or West would shine, and they didn't/

Oh here's one -- I thought Tucker Fisk was a surprisingly good D Lineman.
Though it's a bad sign if your TE steps in, learns a new position, and is better than most of your starters.
Now if only Tucker Fisk could also throw the ball...

I thought McKee was clearly talented and much better than West--just looking at trajectory of the balls he threw, the mechanics, the speed of his delivery, etc. I also imagine that he will get better with more reps and more in-game experience. I thought he looked like he had more (unrealized) potential than West and that he might develop well.

Yeah, I think if McKee gets more experience and the OL gets its stuff together (which I think they are capable of doing) we could end up with a pretty decent offense.
Hopefully sooner rather than later.

The only positive I see in any of this is that it seems the tide has turned and most people have stopped making excuses for Shaw. It is beyond time to hold the head coach to at least as high of a standard as folks have held amateur athletes to.
Of course, not the people who matter. I.e., the people in the chain of command above Shaw.

The D was decent given the challenge.
The QB battle can now focus on the long-term rather than the day to day, go 1-0 each weekend stuff.
Stanford lost a "road" game to a Power 5 team, a few Pac-12 North schools had bad home losses to Group of 5 teams.
I watched the game thinking 3-9 will be a reach for this season.
I watched the rest of the Pac-12 North games yesterday and realized 5-7 or 6-6 could be in the realm.
USC and UCLA looked solid, so the game against Vandy is a very important game.

Agreed. I watched San Jose State vs. USC a few hours later, and I thought SJSU's QB Starkel looked considerably better than both of them. But again, I'd reserve judgment until McKee plays a game that
isn't at 9 a.m. body clock time.

1. The defense played well in the second half and Anderson actually made halftime adjustments
2. No serious injuries - sadly this is a positive in the post-Turley era
3. There is clarity on who the starting QB should be

Also, teams tend to make their biggest improvement between games 1 and 2...and Stanford won't be playing any more games getting up at 6 a.m. body clock time.

Stanford's football operations team had a better day than Indiana's.

To add insult to injury, Indinia lost to Iwoo.

Mick, I'm willing to concede that having a 9:00 a.m. body clock game isn't ideal. But you make it sound like it was outcome-determinative. Is there some study showing 9:00 a.m. games ==> 85% Ls (or worse) for team within 3-5 point spread - i.e., competitive games? If so, I'd like to see it before going "hook, line and sinker" on Shaw's pre-game excuse of starting time. I mean, burning a timeout on 2nd and 17 because the brain trust doesn't know what to call on 2nd and 17 has nothing to do with body clock for the players.
BTW, I watched the game on tape for a more dispassionate viewing last night. For a team that gained 240 yards total offense (which sucks, btw), it actually was not hopeless. Real time it was so exasperating because we see the same game management $hit we've seen for 11 years under this regime, but there are some signs of hope (that have been noted here). And that's irrespective of the P12 North perhaps being awful (frankly, that doesn't give me much solace - I want Stanford to up its game). So there are some Ws on the schedule - or at least good opportunities for same.
BTW, the D held KSU to 360 yards of total offense, which is pretty good (at least). And if the safety takes a decent angle on the 59 yard TD run, then maybe it's even a very good D performance.
P.S. I wouldn't discount a W over Fresno State. Those teams historically play you hard and physically and any W is a good W. tOSU could well blow out Oregon next week - and maybe because Fresno State took its pound of flesh from the Ducks. Regardless, I see that as a pretty good W for Oregon.

Ponies?
Bridle Brycen -- Tremayne made some great catches. At 6'4" he will be a nice target for McGee.
Saddle up Humphreys -- Our WR stable is stocked with big ponies. A solid performance from a big 6'5" receiver.
Benjamin is Money -- Yurosek showed his worth. He should carry on the Stanford tradition of solid TE play.
The Real McKee -- He was 15/18 with a TD and no interceptions. Don't go West Mr. Shaw, let Tanner run this outfit.
Yippee Kyu Yay -- We have a next level corner in Blue Kelley. Ride that pony hard because we'll probably lose him to the NFL after this season.
Ricky Ricky Ricky -- Miezan led the defense with 8 tackles (7 solo) in a defensive performance that allowed K-State 24 points. I'm not mad at that.
As ugly as this game looked, Stanford was not alone in stinking up a football field. Ask the fans of cal, Udub, and Wazzu.

Also, he didn’t get injured, so there’s that.

As disheartening as it was to experience the O-line fail to perform yesterday, it's encouraging that our biggest area of needed improvement is one that, on paper, has the tools to get the job done.
