Is Heck playing elsewhere ?
This could well be the best team on campus.

RE: Stanford Women’s Golf starts tomorrow - winflop - 09-26-2021

Only other Stanford golf teams in the last 50 years that has ever been this loaded are the '94 national championship team and the 94-95 team that added Tiger Woods.

No idea why Heck isn't playing. Angie Ye is also not on the roster. Neither is at the USGA Women's Mid-Amateur either. But it opens up a roster spotsfor Caroline Sturdza, who had a great summer. I also like seeing Aline Krauter in a higher spot it didn't make sense to me why she was at #5 last year.

Not a particularly strong field other than UCLA. Those two teams should run away with this. Bayonet is a tough course could see some relatively high scores.

Speaking of Heck; turns out she is also a very fine artist. Link is to her art on Instagram  @raindelayz • Instagram photos and videos
Appropriately named rain delayz

According to the Stanford Daily:

Quote:Stanford Athletics spokesperson Scott Swegan told The Daily in an email that Heck is missing action due to a non-COVID-19-related illness.

Obviously, we all wish Rachel Heck a speedy and full recovery.

Let's not forget about Angelina Ye, the other returning first team All American. She too, is not playing this tournament.

Looks like Stanford may be playing with only 4 players today. Brooke Seay started the round, but her results have been removed from the tracker. I wonder if she got sick mid-round and had to withdraw.

Bummer for her.

Stanford will be able to substitute one of its other players for tomorrow's second round. Teams almost always bring a sixth player as a designated substitute in case one of the players on the roster has to withdraw.

This looks like it may go down as The Week That UCLA Cleaned Our Clock…

Good thing hoops season hasn't started, or it would be even worse (well, at least on men's side).

RE: Stanford Women’s Golf starts tomorrow - winflop - 09-27-2021

Looks like they're playing 36. I'm surprised to not see a substitute on the scoreboard

From what I can glean with a quick search, substitutions are only allowed in the NCAA regional and championship tournaments. However, I suspect if Seay is OK tomorrow, she will be allowed to compete. You occasionally will see a player DQ in a round, but back in action the next day.

The primary reason that Stanford (and others) have extra players participating in this tourney, as individuals, is that it is close to campus, and it is a reward for the players who don't make the top 5 regularly.

The golfers from Oregon State and San Jose State who played with Seay this morning are not playing this afternoon. We can certainly speculate what that might mean. If we don't see a statement from Stanford about what's going on, we can check social media for OSU and SJSU to see if they are saying anything.

Gonna wait for an official statement but I think we all suspect the same thing. Sucks that a substitution is not being allowed.

So...missing three of last year's regular five starters, and with all four players counting, Stanford currently sits in second place, one shot behind UCLA. The website shows San Jose St at +12 but that's including the eliminated player's -1 and excluding a +7 so their real score is +20. Oregon State is now being forced to count a +17 instead of a +3 so they're actually at +32 instead of +18. Second round finishing soon. Will update with scores when it's finished

If the tracker is accurate, the absent OSU and SJSU players are being given a score of even par for the round, at least for the purpose of determining the team score. Perhaps an accommodation for circumstances beyond their control. If so, that's a very generous accommodation. The average individual score is ~77 (+5).

The SJSU and OSU player scores have now been fully reinstated while Seay remains off the board.

Stanford is in third at +21, six shots behind SJSU & UCLA.

We're not going to get a statement from Stanford and we're not entitled to one.  Haven't you learned that by reading in these parts?

Separately, does it strike anyone as as a bit harsh to DQ those playing with the Stanford player, who is presumably the positive testee?  Are you really in "close contact" with someone for 15 minutes in a golf tourney?  I mean, if they rode in a cart together, then maybe, but I doubt that happens at these events.  Of course, maybe everyone is symptomatic?  Who knows?

RE: Stanford Women’s Golf starts tomorrow - BostonCard - 09-28-2021

It doesn't look like they were disqualified.  Their scores disappeared from the scoreboard for a while, and then were reinstated.

It's possible that the officials didn't know what to do and then figured it out.  It's also possible that it was a glitch, not all that different from what happened on Saturday.

As of this morning, only Brooke Seay's scores are missing

Never said I expected one. Only said I wouldn't jump to conclusions without one.

RE: Stanford Women’s Golf wins - bbm233 - 09-28-2021

Turns out that a four player Stanford team, resting two All Americans, and playing short-handed due to the withdrawal of one player during the first round, is still the best team in the West. The women turned on the jets today, posting three of the four best rounds to win the 54 hole event by 7 strokes over UCLA and SJSU. Rose Zhang, in her first collegiate tournament, was the medalist by three strokes, over her fellow frosh, Caroline Sturdza. Senior Aline Krauter also finished in the top 10, while Sadie Englemann finished in the top 25.

Coach Walker has so much talent to draw upon...I think she could field two teams that would each get through the NCAA regionals and advance to the championship tournament.
