Stanford's overtime games - terry - 10-03-2021

Stanford has played a total of 13 overtime games in the 26 seasons since the overtime rule was adopted in 1996.

Stanford's overall record in overtime is 8-5. That includes 3-2 at home, 5-2 on the road, and 0-1 at neutral sites.

Four of Stanford's overtime games were against Oregon. Stanford won all four of them (1996, 2012, 2018, 2021).

UCLA is the only other opponent against which Stanford has played more than one OT game. Stanford beat UCLA in 2020 and lost in 2005.

Stanford has played one triple overtime game -- the thriller in the Coliseum against USC in 2011, which Stanford won 56-48.

There have been two double overtime games -- last year's win over UCLA and a loss to Utah in 2014.

Stanford played three OT games during the Rose Bowl season in 2012, beating Arizona and Oregon while losing to Notre Dame. That was the only regular season in which we've played more than one OT game. There were two OT games in the 2011 season, a win in the regular season and a loss in the bowl game.

One Big Game has gone to OT, in 2000. Stanford won on a TD pass from Fasani to Moore.

Stanford currently has a three-game winning streak in OT games, defeating Oregon (2018), UCLA (2020), and Oregon again (2021).

Thank you for putting together this list and for your synopsis of the 1996 Oregon game that you posted in the other thread. That 1996 Oregon game was a turning point in my own fandom, but I could no longer remember any of the details.

They play it every now and then on the P12 Network. Very fun watching!

Dasani faked the entire Cal defense and Moore from his FB set was wide open over the middle.

Is that a new brand of bottled water?

I thought the 1995 Oregon game was a lot of fun because they had beaten us badly the year before and expected to do it again. The talk on the Duck boards wasn't whether they were going to win or not (they knew they were) but how many points they were going to beat us by. I think even Bellotti was a little shocked by the loss. You could tell by his post game comments that this wasn't one he expected to lose.
I don't even remember the 1996 Duck game, although there is a good chance I was in attendance.

2001 game was also pretty good despite not going to overtime (as I recall, it featured two blocked punts) and a pretty impressive comeback from down 42-28.  I know there's at least one other poster who is pretty fond of that game.
