10.5pt dogs to ASU; and no top 25 love.... -

Stanford opened as 12 point underdogs to ASU, and it's currently at 10.5. Zero votes for top 25 in coaches poll, and 11 votes (~32) in AP poll.
I suspect most who watched the Oregon game assume (perhaps correctly?) that they learned more about Oregon than Stanford yesterday. Oregon most certainly didn't look like the third best team in the country, but still.

Oregon still ranked 8/9.
The rankings are pretty illogical. Does anyone seriously think Coastal Carolina or San Diego State could beat Clemson?
We have the toughest schedule in NCAA football this year but no one will take that into account.
By the time we play Oregon State they might be ranked as well.
Brutal schedule.

I haven't watched enough college football this season to comment on the rankings, but the spread for ASU sounds about right. Short week, away, many injured, on the heels of a gutsy upset in OT. ASU seems pretty strong, too, having just thrashed the Bruins in Pasadena. Hopefully Stanford will get a few more guys back.

Hope I’m wrong, but, after watching ASU/UCLA last night, I wouldn’t be surprised if ASU scored at least 70% of the times they get the ball.
I’m not confident we can match that.

Agree, the 10.5 point (and even 12 point) spread favoring ASU seems about right. Can we catch lightning in a bottle twice?

Sagarin and ESPN FPI both have us in the 50s. Massey composite is a bit higher at 41. 10 or so sounds about right.....

Doesn't surprise me in the least. With sole exception of last Saturday, Stanford's wins include wobbly and rudderless USC and an utterly hapless Vanderbilt (a truly bad team). With a 4-1 record and a marquis performance against tOSU to start the year, the Ducks remain a darling of the voters, no matter the "injustice". The hundreds of million$ pumped into their Brand by the Knight/Nike industrial complex apparently pays off. A resounding and decisive win against another darling (Herm Edwards) should catapult Stanford out of the realm of skeptics and short-sellers.
CAVEAT: if Stanford should return to the form shown in Arlington and most the game against hapless Vandy and/or the ineptitude against a very beatable UCLA team, it's back to the #40-somethings where a lot of people put them in pre-season. Stanford is lightly regarded amongst the jock-media cognoscenti for legitimate reasons.

Worth noting that we are in good company; Clemson is also out of the top 25.

According to Ben Muth, we ought to be considered for the Playoff, given our body of work.
