I always liked the play.

SC is crazy fast at many positions, but so many in their D are undersized excluding those guys on the line.  So I don't think Owusu or Montgomery could run away from them (or Ducks FWIW), but Stewart could easily get 5-8 YAC with those non-line guys trying to knock him down.  Given where the play was called, 5-8 YAC was a big deal.

The key to that play is making sure the reception happens.  Maybe Ty has better hands.  The effectiveness of the play isn't really key so much on speed so much as misdirection.  Stewart's got some legs--don't forget his Orange Bowl performance from last season!

The announcers didn't like the play.  They cited the difficulty of getting a big OT out to the sidelines to block in limited space along the sidelines for the play to work.

I definitely get the sense that the overall talent level on the team is covering for some of Shaw's play calling lapses. Nothing against Shaw. Every new coach is going to have them. Harbaugh certainly had his share during his first three years on the Farm. And he had a couple years at SD as a warm up. People also tend to be less critical when the team is up by 3TDs.

Yeah, it was a terrible call because..."You see that OT sitting right there blocking.  This play requires that OT to be there for the play to work."

The team got 5 or 6 yards on the play and got into the endzone on the drive.  It is amazing that the media, and some on this board, are now reduced to trying to find fault in a team that WON, on a play that gained yards, with a coach that has NEVER lost.

I absolutely loved the playcall- it was the basis of our offense in flag football. Considering our USC med school team regularly torched the rest of the USC intramural league with it, perhaps Shaw knew it was an innate Trojan weakness.

Yeah I almost ran with that as well, but my knowledge of mythology has really decreased....at this point all I remember was that Homer was a really dirty dude.
