Nice Pickup -

Stanford got a verbal this AM from Georgia linebacker James Vaughters, a four star recruit and arguably the top guy who has committed to us so far.
Beat out Ohio St. - Redrum - 06-17-2010
Not quite like beating Rex Kern and Jim Stillwagon in the Rose Bowl, but getting better players is how you get to the Rose Bowl. Â Or the Camelia Bowl, Â or the Frozen Tundra Bowl, Â wherever the Pac-10 North will play.
More on #16 - Redrum - 06-17-2010
Vaughters was ranked the #6 HS linebacker in the country. The 6\'2", 232 lb-er had 26 written offers. Definitely one of the best offer lists of any player that ever committed to us. He turned down: Ohio St., (Nat. Champ) Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Ga. Tech, Georgia, Ole Miss, North Carolina, UCLA, Tennessee...
In case you\'re getting light-headed, here\'s an antidote: another one of our most heralded recruits was also a linebacker: Michael Craven.
But don\'t let that bring us down. Look at that offer list again. Something was going on to help him sift through all that glitz, hype and pressure. Vaughters comes from a special family that valued academics despite his HS stardom. Reportedly they were big on Stanford and kept him focused even if it meant their kid would be going to college clear across the country.
Now, he\'s got to finish strong academically and not have his head turned by other coaches...who will NOT lay off despite today\'s news. We lost a couple of strong players before LOI day this year (Zumwalt, Bourbon) and it can/will happen again.
One question: we have another MLB-- Anthony Sarao-- whose recruiting profile has blown up after his commit to Stanford. Vaughters is also an MLB (although in a 3-4 that\'s not as critical). It will be interesting if we can get Sarao to stick or if he gets happy feet after the Vaughters commit. Both on the field at the same time would be nice. :)

Vaughters, Sarao, AND Skov would be even better.

I\'ll settle for Vaughters, Ray Lewis, Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary. With Junior Seau off of the bench: you know, for situational purposes.

Remound Wright, Scout.com\'s #20 running back, but a player who also lines up at CB, is tweeting that he has committed to Stanford. Â
Don\'t think we\'re going to lose Vaughters -
JohnR34231 - 06-18-2010
Why? Because he is academically focused, has spent a lot of time researching his decision, and had plenty of other offers to sift through when he chose us. He also has lived in different parts of the country so he isn\'t wedded to one specific area.
Anything could happen of course, but I have a feeling he is going to stick.
Well it takes TWO to get into Stanford - Redrum - 06-18-2010
Sticking with the commitment on the part of the player...and Montag letting him in. Â If he is right on the edge he might start looking at an alternative/fall back school and an alternative could turn his head once it has an opening.
Supposedly he\'s a 4.0 student -

Not sure what his SAT scores are, or if he\'s taken the requisite AP courses, but if his GPA really is that high I\'d say he has a good chance of being admitted.
Interesting aspect to Vaughter\'s recruitment - Redrum - 06-20-2010
Vaughters was sought not only by Stanford on the West Coast, but also by UCLA and USC. Â Vaughters took an official visit to USC on one of their home game weekends. Â What\'s not to like about USC football on a game day in the Coliseum? Â Â Well, not as much as the Trojans would have liked. Â Vaughters stood with the staff and players on the USC sideline as Stanford hung USC\'s worst defeat ever-- 55-21-- on the Trojans. Â That can\'t be good for recruiting to have your HS visitors not only witness the collapse on the field, Â but experience the frustration, anger and miasma of defeat up close and personal.
Stanford and Gerhart. Â 55-21. Â The gift that keeps on giving.
And equal time for Remound Wright - Redrum - 06-21-2010
Sounds like a Stanford kid, Â nothing to not like in a camp highlight tape. Â Good hands.

What with the Stanford football camps and some kids visiting us that have us high on their priority lists.
