MGolf at St Mary's Invitational - bbm233 - 11-08-2021

In the last event of the fall season, our Men's golf team has made its way to the Monterey Peninsula to play in a tournament at Poppy Hills. We brought our A team to the event, IMO, for the first time all year: Thorbjornsen, Vilips, Shimp, Brown and Ng. Stanford is ranked #6 based on results so far, and should lap the field consisting almost entirely of non-Power 5 schools. If this was football, it would remind you of an SEC non-conference body bag game.

Scoring is at http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=24211

Boy, did Vilips turn it around in round 2!  He went from +2 to -5.

RE: MGolf at St Mary's Invitational - winflop - 11-10-2021

Stanford lost the lead over the final four holes and finished second. Stanford's four "counting" players played the final four holes in +4 while Oregon's four played them in -1. USF had the low round of the day to finish 3rd

1. Oregon -19
2. Stanford -17
3. USF -10

Individually Stanford had only two players finish in the top 10 which was a bit disappointing after being stronger going into the final round

3. Brown -6
T5. Vilips -4
T17. Ng -1
T28. Shimp +1
T34. Thorbjornsen +2

This ends the team's fall season, which I would say overall was a success with a surprising win against a very tough field at Colonial and strong finishes in two of their other three events (I don't consider second against the weak field this week as a strong finish).

Their next event begins Feb 3 at Waikoloa Beach on the Big Island at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate.
