Damning tweets by ex players - CardinalSagehen - 11-27-2021

I generally would not take a tweet by a former fullback all that seriously, but I know that some of you will enjoy this.

To place this in context, Ward played from 2010-2014 and had very few touches in his career (but as Phogge rightly points out below, and in fairness, he was a strong blocker.)  He joined the program under Harbaugh.

So far, this tweet has only been "liked" by a few angry media types such as Jacob Rayburn.  It will be interesting to see if any other former players among Ward's followers choose to pile on.

Ward, now 30, remains pictured in his Stanford jersey on his Twitter profile pic.

And there's more from Ben Gardner, though it's not directly aimed at Shaw.  Zach Ertz, Chase Thomas, Luke Kaumatule, and Ben Muth have "liked" this.

Further down the rabbit hole, there's more from Chase Thomas.

These guys are having a bit of a meltdown, not unlike many other fans.

Ward might have gotten “few touches” but he was a devastating lead blocker in an offense in a galaxy far, far away.

Blake Lueders, former DE was a highly rated DL recruit that committed when Harbaugh was there, but played a decent amount under shaw, also liked the tweet by Lee Ward. I know way back when, Doug Baldwin looked at Shaw as a mentor figure to him and spoke highly, and I believe Shaw had developed a very good culture for the most part, but no one is going to praise a culture on a losing team.  I'm honestly torn on what to do next.  I've been critical of shaw for in game decisions a lot, but I used to think he was an overall very good coach who knew the struggles Stanford faced, but now it really seems we are on our way to being a bottom feeder...

Harbaugh used the third base/triple line earlier in the day, apparently to take a shot at Ryan Day.

I don't have a link but I think Harbaugh has used that idiom before. If I remember correctly he applied it to a certain type of personality he didn't like at Stanford.

We are not a bottom "feeder".  We are what's for dinner.

Lee Ward was voted captain his senior year, not bad for a Walk-On.

I myself am not on board with Willie T and his less than 500 HC record.

Taggert has coached at five schools now (western Kentucky, south Florida, Oregon, Florida state, and now Florida Atlantic), and he’s only had a winning record at one (Oregon), where in one season he went 7-5 before leaving for FSU prior to the bowl game.

Agree it is a weird choice, unless they mean hiring him as offensive coordinator, but I doubt he will step down from a head coaching position.

Not a Taggart fan, but to be fair, he inherited disaster programs at Western Kentucky and South Florida and made them respectable before leaving (from 0-12 the year before he arrived to 7-5 in three years at Western Kentucky and from 3-9 the year before he arrived to 10-2 at South Florida in four years).  His Oregon gig was too short for any kind of performance assessment, while the FSU stint (not even two years) was truly bad, but the Seminoles haven't had a winning season since Jimbo Fisher's last year (7-6) in 2018. If he fails to get FAU back to the levels Lane Kiffin achieved in 2019 (11-3), then he may find himself out of coaching for good.

My take on Willie is that he is fine for the Western Kentuckys of this world but is out of his element at a Power 5 conference.
A little like Buddy who failed at Stanford but has done very well at Dartmouth.

You could be right.  I think it was rather foolish of him to ditch the Oregon job after not even one season and hightail it back to the sunshine state.  Florida State was in a mess at the time, and it still hasn't recovered.

I assume it was Taggart's turnaround job at South Florida and his Stanford stint as RB coach that landed him the job at Oregon, which is one of the best head coaching jobs in NCAA football.  But the HC job at FSU proved to be his fatal attraction.
