Cristobal leaving Oregon -

This could create some intriguing dominoes falling where it to happen. Mario Cristobal, who played OL on National Championship teams at Miami, is suppose to decide on Monday whether he will leave the Pacific Northwest for South Beach.
If he does leave as seems reasonable to assume, it appears it could have an impact on other Pac-12 jobs. Justin Wilcox - who I believe would KILL IT at Oregon - and Chip Kelly - who already has KILLED IT at Oregon - seem to be among the top candidates to replace Cristobal should he depart.
Kelly is not liked at UCLA, and Cal fans seem to want Wilcox gone for some reason I simply cannot fathom. My guess is Kelly would be most likely to leave his current spot, but either leaving would be intriguing.

Kelly leaves ucla and takes the qb with him along with a few other rbs and wrs, USC may win the south if they don't get mauled by the Utes, but will then have Kelly and the duckies, so much for 150 million.

Justin Wilcox is not a "top" candidate nor a candidate at all for that job.

I am not so sure Cristobal has decided what he wants to do. We all know that a coach’s second stint with a program is no guaranteed success, so I’d root for a return to Eugene for Kelly if Cristobal leaves, I think. UCLA would likely struggle, I think, if Kelly leaves at this point.

I'm don't think it's certain and people are known to change their minds (and presumably Oregon is trying to change his mind) but the Miami Herald and Fox have both reported that he's agreed to terms with Miami, and he's canceled the recruiting visits that he had scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) so it's more than just idle speculation at this point.
If the job comes open I suppose that it's logical for people to mention Kelly but it's a great job which should attract names that are currently much hotter than their former coach. Sitake comes to mind, for example.

Will he take the mustachioed S&C coach with him?

One of the best recruiters in the PAC-12, but also, a guy who twice in four years handed Stanford a victory we didn’t deserve. I thought he had turned it around in their signature win against Ohio State, but alas, Wittingham and Utah embarrassed the Ducks, twice. I give him four years at “the U”.
Someone is going to come in and inherit a ton of talent at Oregon. If they can coach, they will win big.

Reports/Rumors are that Jeff Tedford who was the OC at Oregon before becoming the head coach at Kal is interested in getting back into coaching. He stepped down at Fresno State due to health issues, which apparently, he has been able to address. Tedford might be able to get the maximum performance out of the talent at Oregon. The current DC at Oregon was the head coach at Fresno State that Tedford succeeded.

I assume Knight and the Ducks will want to make a splash. I’m guessing they will go after Dave Aranda, who just led Baylor to a Big-12 championship.

When Aranda’s name came up in relation to the USC job, Baylor went into Full Alert status and prepared a substantial offer to him. That should take him off the market. Oregon’s biggest problem is most of the top guys have already filled out their dance cards. The Ducks are going to have to pay a premium to convince someone to come to Eugene.

I don't know why y'all don't take Justin Wilcox seriously. Let me use a Formula One analogy here.
Mercedes is the top team on F1, having won the last several constructor championships. This year is leads Red Bull with one race left in the season. Think of them as Oregon in this analogy.
The Williams team has been in the bottom of the constructor's standings in F1 for several years, including being #8 of 10 teams this season. This of them as Cal in this analogy. George Russell is an F1 driver for the Williams team. Think of him as Justin Wilcox.
George Russell has never won a race and in 50+ races finished above 10th just three times. Last year when Lewis Hamliton was out with Covid, Russell replaced him with a car good enough to win. He did not even finish the race. Despite having a forgettable career in terms of results otherwise, this year Russell was able to finish 2nd once.
Yet despite these meager results, after seeing him finish 2nd, Mercedes has signed Russell to drive for them in 2022. Like the driver needs to be talented, so too does a College Football Head Coach, but without a program committing significant resources and talent to winning, neither a driver or coach is going to be successful in a highly competitive endeavor.
You put Justin Wilcox in a program with Oregon's resources and commitment and he will crush it. His Cal teams way over perform their talent on a routine basis. Are there some stinkers? Sure. But in the main, he keeps Cal more competitive than they should be, even in losses, IMO. So pooh-pooh Justin Wilcox all you want for not winning enough at a school that cares less about winning football games than any school in the Pac-12. But don't lose track of what a difference joining one that prioritizes winning can make in one's ability to win games.
You can also look at Gabe Kapler as an analogy. He was terrible at the Phillies and was fired. After he joined the Giants?

Exactly what happened yesterday? Did Hamilton not realize that Max was letting him by or was Max playing cat and mouse and hoping Hamilton would hit the wall?

As I understand it...
The stewards told Mercedes Verstappen was ordered to give Lewis the (first) place back for passing him outside the lines (which seemed like the right call to me), but Mercedes didn't clearly hear that and was distracted by other channels so never passed it on to Lewis. Hamilton wasn't expecting Max to slow down where he did, and he probably thought Max was going to accelerate, but he didn't, and Lewis hit him from behind. That said, who knows what Max was trying to create there. It was very odd and to me a classic "accident" in the sense a series of things happened in a certain way that led to a failure of some sort when they combined.
Max was penalized 5 seconds for one unsafe pass and after the race was over he got an additional 10 seconds for another illegal pass. But no matter, he still finished second.
After thinking through it all, at the time Lewis hit Max it was controversial, but when you see how the race finished, with Hamilton winning by like 8 seconds even without the penalties to Max factored in, it seemed like much ado about nothing. The fact is Verstappen was on Medium tires and they were worn out and Hamilton was on Hard tires that lasted longer. Even IF Max wasn't told to give the place back and Lewis didn't hit him, Hamilton was going to win that race because of the tire situation. If Max was on Hard tires like Hamilton maybe it would have been different?
The crazy thing is that Hamilton was able to win even with the right wing damage. Literally, the championship could have been decided if Hamilton's wing was so damaged he would have had to pit for a new nose. The fact he was the fastest car after the damage was remarkable.
Anyway, the result was perfect. The World Driving Championship is now tied and the order Hamilton and Verstappen finish in the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi decides it. Couldn't ask for anything more than that if you are F1 or a fan of it!

Totally agree. Wilcox is a very good defensive coach. His offense at Kal has be run by Beau Baldwin and subsequently Bill Musgrave. It hasn't gone well on that side of the ball. Wilcox and his staff has also been excoriated for very poor recruiting. One might suggest Kal is a difficult place to coach football, and one would be correct. However, Wilcox has done nothing that indicates he can deliver an offense. Maybe he can, but Oregon isn't going to hire on a maybe. Wilcox would be greeted by incredulity in the fan base. Not happening.

That substantial offer was prepared on November 25th and eleven days later no extension has been signed, so he's definitely not off the market. He's in a good spot at Baylor but born and raised in California. He was definitely interested in the USC job, not sure about his interest in Oregon.
This cycle has taught us that even the most unexpected hires are possible and that schools are willing to offer mega contracts to get who they want. The Oregon situation will be fascinating given their resources and how well positioned they are from a competitive standpoint at the moment. Usually when a big job opens up (e.g. USC, Florida, LSU) it's because on-field performance has been lacking and/or recruiting needs to be upgraded. Oregon has disappointed somewhat on the field but is ready-made for immediate major success under the right coach.

So my question is how many Oregon recruits will Cristobal convert to Miami? Or will they switch to, say, USC or elsewhere in conference? I'm thinking of someone like, say, highly-regarded Tetairoa McMillan, WR out of Anaheim Servite (who also had a Stanford offer).
Just a few days ago McMillan told Greg Biggins that he was solid to Oregon. But he also said that Cristobal was a big reason why he chose the Ducks.
