Taylor Ruck - Women’s Swimming - Sakibomb25 - 12-17-2021

For those of you who follow swimming may have noticed Taylor Ruck was off in her performance leading up to the Tokyo Games… well now we know why.

I’m glad she is getting the help she needs and telling her story shines a brobdingnagian light on a problem in athletics that isn’t talked about a whole lot.

Thanks for posting.  I love Stanford sports and the fact that we support a wide variety of men's and women's teams.  I think it is important to examine the cost to the student athletes and, less importantly, to the university and fans.  I want "us" to win, but not at all costs.  Working to find a balance is critical to keep college sports at Stanford from going too far astray, or at least farther astray than they already are.  I am proud of Taylor for speaking out publicly to try to help others.  Stanford's role in all of this is not mentioned in the article but I assume our coaches and expectations played a part.  I hope Stanford will become a leader in supporting its student athletes to be high achievers with a culture that promotes healthy behaviors and supports students and athletes when they need help.

Cheers,
Pete F.
