Technically,  Rutgers doesn't have enough wins to be bowl eligible right?

Time to put everyone on standby!

RE: Texas A&M Withdraws From Gator Bowl - chrisk - 12-22-2021

They are now considering teams that have already played in a bowl because of concerns that non-bowl eligible teams may not have enough time to get ready because they have not played in almost a month.

What happens if all four teams are unavailable???

Rooting hard for the national championship to be vacated!  The entire Michigan team is getting their booster shot en masse.

While that scenario isn't explicitly spelled out, I imagine National Championship will be "vacated" for that. Obviously, this is what I am rooting for, and what the stupid CFB playoff system deserves. Would be ok with every team but Cincinnati going out, that would be pretty funny too.

EUTM applied to vax.  I love it.

I thought "vacated" too, but found it interesting that the document didn't note that possibility.

I would prefer the SEC teams not win.  However COVID loves people spending time indoors so I would have guessed Michigan and Cincy are the two teams more likely to be impacted by COVID issues prior to the semis.   I think Michigan has done the right thing for themselves, their state and the USA.   Get everyone boosted.  No excuses.  No delays.   And for that reason I hope Michigan wins.

Michigan vs Cincinnati would be my preferred match-up
SEC (unable to play) vs SEC (unable to play) would be my dream outcome should both SEC teams reach the CG.

Just virtually give the coaches silver dollars and play the old match game like kids used to.

E$PN, I would think, must be involved somehow in these scenarios, as I'm sure they'd lose quite a bit of revenue if there's no CFP at all.

At that point we say "***** it" and claim it ourselves.

What?  Show me in the rules where it explicitly says we cannot do that?

In the immortal words of Dennis Green…

But honestly, I think Oregon and Ionescu would have won the title.

I, for one, am in favor of awarding titles to teams leading in the polls at the time of Covid shutdown in spring 2020:

RE: Texas A&M Withdraws From Gator Bowl - qwerty49 - 12-23-2021

So hold the schools accountable for their own protocols:

1. Testing within 24 hrs of kickoff/tip-off. Make sure every positive test is confirmed.

2. Positive test = you’re immediately quarantined from rest of team.

3. Not enough players = forfeit, counts as a loss

4. Both teams forfeit = too bad. (Prevents collusion to preserve a 5-0 record, e.g.)

5. Titles and tournament advances to be determined accordingly.

Bowls will scream about it. Maybe set up a “waitlist” of willing substitute teams and do first tests 10-14 days in advance.

I’m not sure how this differs from the present situation. NCAA seems to have little teeth in enforcement.

RE: Texas A&M Withdraws From Gator Bowl - dabigv13 - 12-23-2021

FWLIW, I suspect by next fall covid is not going to be behaving like a pandemic illness, and testing/quarantining will not be necessary.

How society at large deals with that transition from pandemic to endemic illness is certainly going to be interesting.

Once security measures of some type are instituted, its not often they quickly go away. Looking at you, TSA.

RE: Texas A&M Withdraws From Gator Bowl - BostonCard - 12-23-2021

Hawaii withdrew from the Hawaii bowl, and the bowl was subsequently cancelled.

RE: Texas A&M Withdraws From Gator Bowl - dabigv13 - 12-24-2021

The cancellations are playing havoc with my bowl pool, which I'm probably not winning anyway, so still rooting for the chaos. Memphis I'm sure is not too dissapointed that they got some more free time in Hawaii all of a sudden.
