Landry Fields NBA draft watch - burger - 06-23-2010

Folks might want to keep an eye on tomorrow\'s NBA draft.  Landry Fields has worked out for 15 teams and is even making some mock draft lists, as a mid-to-late second round pick.

If he does get drafted, it\'ll be a testament to a great senior season.  He could easily have dialed it in on a team that was going nowhere, but his effort was impressive, all season long.

Best of luck to Landry -- he really seems like a classy guy.

Another good article about Landry, this one from his hometown paper: http://www.presstelegram.com/sports/ci_15355297

Two thoughts:

First, he should get drafted.  He may not be the flashiest player in the draft, but he can do it all.  Great player, good kid, deserves a chance.  He was really the only guy Stanford\'s opponents had to guard closely.

Second, it\'s nice to see you\'re not holding his recent comments about Jerome Randle against him.  Surprising, but nice nonetheless.

Landry goes to the Knicks early in the second round (39th overall). Knick fans booed the selection. Andy Rautins from Syracuse was also picked by the Knicks with the 38th pick and the fans cheered. I guess they were happy to see a New York kid become a Knick. But they are going to be much happier with Landry. I think he has a good chance to be a Matt Barnes type of player.

And depending on what happens in free agency, Landry could be playing with Lebron and Chris Bosh.

Way, to go Landry!  And nice to see him landing on a bad team, where his odds of making the roster should be pretty good.

Chad Ford on ESPN about Landry:

Quote:Fields is the first real shock of the draft. He was a good scorer in the Pac 10. He\'s a great shooter, but he makes plays. He wasn\'t rated in my Top 100 and I\'m not a fan, to say the least.

Of course, he was the guy who loved the Darko picked over Carmelo Anthony and Chris Bosh a couple years ago.

Chad Ford is generally very good. His assessment of Darko was, safe to say, very wrong. But it was an error shared by a ton of different people, so there\'s safety in numbers there.

I think the problem here is likely that Ford didn\'t scout the Pac-10 extensively. And if you\'re interested in watching NBA talent, why would you have watched it last year?

Quote:Speaking of which, how about Brian Treggs\' son thinking about playing football at Stanford? Probably couldn\'t get into kal, right?

Obviously.  Doesn\'t Treggs live in Palo Alto, after all?

On another UCB/Stanford note, you may recall the story of Jill Costello, our women\'s cox who was diagnosed with lung cancer a year or so ago.  At this year\'s Big Row, both teams were outfitted in tribute to her.  She passed away yesterday.

RIP, Jill...
