WBB: All In: The 2020-21 Stanford Cardinal -
UltimateCard - 01-08-2022
Anyone watch this? Premiered after last night’s game against the Ducks. The
teaser - “Pac-12 Networks turns back the clock to relive Stanford’s triumphant title run, which included 86 days in a hotel, a nearly 10 week-long road trip, and just six true home games in Maples Pavilion due to COVID-19 protocols” - almost makes me want to subscribe to PAC-12 Networks (not really). Hope it will be shown on their YouTube channel soon. Would love to hear reviews.

Watched it after the game. It was a lot of fun to recap last year's run to the championship. The interviews were really good. They didn't show many video clips of game action especially if it was from ESPN. That was disappointing and took away from some of the drama of the games. Overall it was just great to see the team and coaches get some of the attention they deserve after all their hard work.
Cheers,
Pete F.

Little touches in those interviews that make you realize the difficulties faced that season.
It reminded me there was once an hour-long special on the 1990 championship, I want to say it aired on KQED. One day, I went to copy it to a DVD and the tape was gone. I would love to see that one again.

Same here.
To whomever it was on this board that convinced me to get Sling (I believe it took a few people), I thank you!

I watched it after the Oregon game. It was enjoyable. There was nothing revelatory and as noted very little game footage from the NCAAs due to ESPN having the right, but I did enjoy the interviews and the bits of games they could show. I would say if you can easily access it, worth a watch. If you have to go out of your way, don't sweat it if you don't see it. In short fun, but not essential viewing.

That is just how I felt. I actually appreciated that it focused on the interviews and not the game action, since we have seen the games. I imagine Pac 12 knew going in that they could not buy the rights from ESPN to very much, so they made the project about something other than a review of the games.

Here is info on the Frontline special, which came out in 1994 and focused on the Title IX aspects:

There was a commemorative VHS video of that first championship that I bought at the Stanford bookstore, which sounds more like the PAC-12 Networks show. If I’m remembering correctly, on the way to the 1992 Final, Tara popped that video into the console on the bus to motivate the team before they played Dawn Staley and UVa. Hoping Tara will find reason to show “All In” on April 3!

I was one of them! And speaking of - I just saw they are rerunning it tomorrow at 3 pm of PAC-12 Arizona and Mountain networks. (I'm recording it then, as I didn't know about this until I replayed the Oregon game this am). Meanwhile, they still show our OSU game on PAC-12 Bay Area at 3. Any chance they'll be the Gonzaga game? Here's hoping so...

I watched the retrospective on last year's run this morning. One thing I picked up on that I had never caught before is that in the beginning of the celebratory scrum after the natty game, Prechtel caught the back of someone's head right in the mouth and it looked like it really hurt for a minute or 2. Details!

thanks for reminding us of the special!
re: the absence of highlights...makes me wonder if this is a general limitation or yet another stumble by the pac-12 network. don't networks typically trade highlights for their sportscenter type shows and their news hours? i can see that march madness might be more tightly controlled, but did cbs and nbc, for example, really have no ncaa highlights on their end-of-the-day sports segments for all those weeks?
right now, espn seems to have a few highlight videos from most top basketball and football games, college and pro, on its website whether they carried the game or not. how did they get them?
addendum: for example, just checked and espn.com has video highlights from the pac-12 network broadcast of friday's stanford-oregon game. you can find them on the ncaaw basketball scoreboard, friday's games.
so, highlight clips go to espn, but espn won't send any back?

Yes you were, and thank you again! I just had Roku connected to my TV so it’s even easier now than using my laptop.

I really enjoyed watching All In, and I was surprised at how emotional it felt to relive last season's championship run. For us fans, it was a long time coming, but truly worth the wait.
One tidbit that stuck out to me, as I hadn't seen it reported elsewhere: When the players first returned to campus for the 2020-2021 season, some of them broke the five-day quarantine requirement and went to shoot around together at an off-campus gym on day four. Subsequently, multiple players received positive Covid test results. They hinted at Tara's reaction (not good would be an understatement), and it seemed as though this was a real impetus for the team's discipline around Covid protocols going forward. Obviously, a highly transmissible virus can strike anyone, no matter how careful they are, but many of us noted now many other programs had to cancel games, while Stanford seemed less impacted overall. Last year's players got a taste early on of how carelessness could impact not only them but their teammates, and it's clear that they resolved to play for each other and make smart decisions for one another. Cue shots of everyone double masked for the rest of the season. It seems protocols were so strict that Jones and Belibi even had to ask Tara's permission before they famously went to hug Boston after we beat South Carolina in the final four!
