Men's BB: Stanford 64 - UW 67 -
Papa John - 01-14-2022
The Stanford men will be playing their third game in five days--in three cities! The team played USC in Maples on Tuesday, traveled ca. 900 miles to Pullman, WA to play WSU on Thursday, and will travel another 300 miles to Seattle to play UW on Saturday afternoon.
Stanford, up to #72 in the NET rankings, will face the #164 Huskies with an opportunity for a rare road sweep in conference play. In fact, Stanford improved its road (not including neutral) record to 1-3 at WSU, so this would be a major statement re: how the team has improved since November.
UW is 7-7 (2-2) and 4-4 at home. Their conference wins are @ Utah and vs Cal, losses @ Arizona and @ Colorado. Nothing jumps out in their team stats other than a 6.1 favorable margin in turnovers per game. Given Stanford's propensity for TOs, this will be something to watch, IMO.
If UW has a star player, it's graduate student Terrell Brown Jr. who, via Shoreline CC, Seattle U. and Arizona, is averaging 20.7 pts and 4.1 rebounds per game and on the season has 56 assists to only 26 TOs, 37 steals and 7 blocks. Daejon Davis, Brown Jr.'s cousin, is a full-time starter and is averaging 8.5 pts per game.

Thanks, as always, for the heads up. I haven’t watched any of their games. Is DD a “star” or more of a supporting role for them? Just curious. We’ll find out soon enough!

I’m sure Daejon is thrilled that after transferring due to not being the focal point of the offense, he is once again not the focal point of the offense.

Brown's averages have "star player" written all over them;
Daejon will be out for blood tonight - you can bank on that;
UW has been playing better recently, I believe, which is cause for concern.
I'm a bit surprised Stanford is favored at all ("pick-em" . . . maybe).

ESPN's basketball power index has UW with a 51% probability of winning. That feels about right to me, especially given the extra burden of the constant travel and lack of significant rest and recovery between games.

I looked in on their game the other night. DD had five steals, 4 of which I think led to points. He had a couple of rushes into the paint leading to nothing which looked familiar, but otherwise was sound offensively. I think he had 2 (maybe 3) 3 pt shots. He rebounded, of course, and was at the "point" of the zone D that Wash plays and was very interruptive. Announcers compared him to Beibel. (SP)?

Third game in five days after two weeks of being unable to practice, much less do any conditioning for those who were symptomatic.
Wouldn't surprise me if UW pulls away in the second half, and I wouldn't be upset if it happened. The kids have to be a little gassed.

Shame on the Pac-12 for not moving the game to Sunday at least.

I don't know about being gassed...I remember being 19 and 20 and having lots of energy and I certainly didn't take care of my body the way the kids do today. Sure, I didn't do anything at an elite level other than study, but I don't see fatigue being an issue.

Ingram is on today.
We're getting creamed.
Murrel gets court time before Renault. We're trying to dig out of an 11 point hole.

Delaire has had his three blocks at the rim. Maybe now he can settle down and use another move.

Agree. Not sure why Haase hasn't used his timeouts.

34-17 Huskies. We look totally unprepared. Did no one on the coaching staff know that Washington plays zone?
Every single year Haase's teams have finished near the bottom of the D-I in turnover rate, and this year is no exception. You can get away with sloppy passes against some teams, but not today.

Because he's a bad coach.

Yep/ Tired, flat and not very good. I wish I could coach Delaire. He could be really good.

So, I guess you're saying you could do a better job of coaching than Hasse. Pretty bold.

We can't score to save our lives, and Beskind is in the game.
New coach, please.

Well, he's not my favorite. Nahhh, I'd just like to tell Delaire a couple things. He could be quite good.
