MGolf at La Quinta - winflop - 02-21-2022
Men's golf begins a three-day tournament at the Normal course at PGA West in La Quinta today. Six top 25 teams among the 24 teams there. Stanford's roster:
1. Thorbjornsen
2. Vilips - good to see him back in the lineup
3. Brown
4. Menon
5. Shimp

We are +8 in 15th about halfway through the first day. Our best two so far are Thorb and Brown, each at +1 and in 30th place.

Rough day for the Cardinal, currently sitting near the bottom of the standings and closer to last than to first
T1. Oregon & Vanderbilt +3
T18. Stanford +18
DFL. Cal Poly +31
Thorbjornsen (T18) & Brown (T32) played decently, but everyone else stunk it up pretty badly.

Our score for the morning flight looks terrible, but was better than average. Afternoon flight looks to be just as bad as they make the turn. We'll probably move a couple of places when all the scores are confirmed. There is a high wind warning for the Coachella Valley with widespread gusts over 50MPH, according to the NWS.

Conditions must be really bad. Play suspended at about 3 pm.

Teams at the top of the standings are back on the course, but Stanford didn't do anything today to improve its standing. Currently at +41 and in 19th place, about all they can hope for tomorrow is improving to a not-quite-as-bad finish.
Thorbjornsen is the only Cardinal player in the top half of the field. He had a rough second 9 today (+7) but managed to shoot -1 on his first 9.

Play was suspended later in the day, but after Stanford had already finished.

The Cardinal finally showed their stuff today, posting the second-lowest round of the day and jumping ten spots up the leaderboard for a somewhat respectable 7th place finish.
Quick turnaround next event starts Sunday in Cabo.
