Dalton Schultz - lex24 - 03-08-2022

Cowboys put Franchise Tag on him. He will make about $10.94 million next year. Not bad for a guy that was a fringe NFL prospect.

The recruiting department should text the article to all the TE prospects.

He was not (and should never have been) a fringe NFL prospect. Consistently mocked in the middle rounds. All the tools were there. Was just horrifically misused, which should not be a surprise under this staff.

Ok. “Fringe prospect was the wrong phrase.  IIRC,which is always a big if. He was considered a terrific blocker with limited speed etc.  More of a blocking  tight end, NFL wise. Which was the case his first couple years.  He took advantage of Whittens retirement and stepped up when another TE got hurt.  So, good for him.

As for his “misuse” at Stanford - he played with Kaden Smith and Colby Parkinson his senior year. They got around 60 catches from the three.  Schultz was first team all PAC-12. So if unsure how he was “misused.”

My favorite Dalton Schultz moment (at 0:29 of this Stanford-Colorado 2015 summary).  Will we see that kind of team again?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF2TGvRC7NA

Probably referring to 2016, when we had a future stud at TE, but couldn’t figure out a good receiving rotation.  Schultz had 23 catches for 222 yards that year, and we were playing around with Greg Taboada at TE.
