Haase is Back For Another Year... - ColoradoTree - 03-10-2022

Aaaaand there it is: Muir retaining him. Sigh.

This is the problem with Haase. Some games, we play great, and it gives us hope. Then, inevitably, we crater and play poorly, like no one has any theory of how to conduct an offense that can win the game. I don't expect anything different next season than I've come to expect from past ones. A few glimmers, mostly disappointment, and no post-season.  Again, Muir's tolerance for mediocrity is apparently much greater than mine.

TITCR, IMHO:

RE: MBB: Pac-12 tournament - burger - 03-10-2022

Mother****er.

Well, since we're stuck here, I guess can see a few positives. We shouldn't lose any recruits.  Hopefully, no one transfers.  And I think we go into next year with a bunch of high-quality players: Jones (who'll be a senior), Raynaud, Keefe, Angel, and Ingram.  Taitz should be back.  And I think that Silva's ceiling is high--though the game moved a little too fast for him this year.

I hope Haase coaches like his job is on the line every game.  But he'll probably get another year if he finishes .500...

Mods, the Haase news deserve it's own thread.  Can we split these last few comments off?  Or maybe move this to a new thread?

Good call. Done. See cleaved thread above.

Indeed. Not going to lie, I do miss the days of Hennessy and Bowlsby. From Varsity Blues to the Fiasco of Dropping and then Undropping Sports to compete unwillingness to force even an iota of change on Shaw or Haase, it's getting harder and harder to think the folks running the show these days care about the success and integrity of our athletic teams.  If we end up losing the Directors Cup again in a year where we can't reasonably blame it on COVID, I really feel like that's a sign something needs to change. Even Robin the Horrible couldn't wreak that level of havoc...

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - Phogge - 03-10-2022

There you have it. Your administration doesn't GAS about hoops or football or you guys in general.

All you can do is not buy tickets and not give them any money. Give your cash to Slava Ukrini.

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - Sam Leopold - 03-10-2022

Haase's record at Stanford by month:

November = 26-14
December = 19-12
 January = 24-23
February = 24-24
   March =  5-17

Muir is mistaking noise for signal here.  These last two games were a flash in the pan.  The Stanford team that played today would represent well in the NIT.  Why then, Muir should be asking himself, won't they be playing in at least the NIT?  Where were they against Utah and Cal?

JFC. Muir has got to go

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - SamuelMcF - 03-10-2022

This was never in doubt. Ever.

Question:  I am not familiar with Stanford's org-chart.  At most Universities the Provost has no authority over intercollegiate athletics--that is left to the AD.  The Provost governs the academic side of the house and reports directly to the President, the AD governs athletics and also reports directly to the President.  Is Stanford different?  Can the Provost fire a coach?

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - jacket3ree - 03-10-2022

One sweat-stained Jacobson jersey will arrive in a package at Muir's doorstep.  My son doesn't dick around.  I wonder if they'll call in the bomb squad?

Stanford hoops is like the nascent MTV. You'd stay up all Friday night waiting for Santana's Soul Sacrifice video. Nothing but a string of Duran Duran, Toto, Flock of Seagulls, Private Eyes, Betty Davis' eyes, Billy Squier, and crappy post-Kath Chicago.  Yet you watched.  It'll be the next one for sure.  Nope.  Next one for sure.....

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - Phogge - 03-10-2022

I’m still waiting for Buddy Holly, The Coasters and The Drifters.

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - baycommuter - 03-10-2022

Muir likes safe mediocre coaches. Can we say Shaw is a Haase of a different color?

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - cardfan77 - 03-10-2022

I'm ready for Muir to go. Between Haase, Muir and Shaw, I want Muir to go first and STAT!

We should save this thread for re-examination after next season.  Let's hope that you folks are all wrong (though it's hard to have any confidence in that occurring).

But if you're looking for a silver lining, consider this:  if football and basketball suck again, maybe Muir is the fist one to go.
And would you really trust Muir to make a good hire of a major sport coach at Stanford?

I believe that the AD reports to the provost, but I can’t be sure.  When Bowlsby was hired, Etchemendy chaired the search committee:

And when Muir was hired, he was introduced in the press release by Etchemendy (the chair of the search committee was a faculty member).

However, the Stanford org chart is particularly impenetrable to an outsider, so I can’t be sure.

PS, no way the Provost fires a coach

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - Phogge - 03-10-2022

So... he drops a bunch of sports in a way that incredible media pressure is put on the U.

Then he has the rowing coach admit a kid for cash. Could we call it a bribe.

Then his nationally renowned football coach has his program cratered as he acted like the Cheshire Cat.

Then his hoops coach decides to substitute his players by using his Ouija Board and they fold like Origami.

In all seriousness and especially at Stanford, Ground Zero of the Silicon Valley billionaire tech and science industry and alma mater of winners in all phases of American business, how can this person keep his job?

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - OutsiderFan - 03-11-2022

So what do y'all who go to Stanford events where Muir speaks, say to him?

How do you make it clear you won't tolerate such lack of performance year in and year out in Football and MBB in a way that effectuates getting the changes you want to see?

RE: Haase is Back For Another Year... - TrumpCard - 03-11-2022

Any chance HI forgoes the draft?  If he’s gone, the team is going to have to rebuild yet again. Haase’s best skill is recruiting elite guys who leave after 1 year.
