watching Calipari lose in Round 1 to a team from a school that i've literally never heard of is the definition of gratifying.

It is too bad Kentucky wasn't a 1 seed and St. Peter's a 16 seed, to create a new record of infamy that might diminish our own. Although I see that it happened on the men's side in 2018, so our WBB does not stand alone any more.

The Stanford L is a quirky stat . . . that is all.
Anyone paying attention to the roster developments would have viewed this as a minor upset. At most.
That one doesn't bother me at all - well, other than being bummed out about the incredible bad luck of losing both Folkl and Nygaard. That team might have been going places.
(The men's L to 'Bama chaps way more, even after all these years).

ND with Cormac Ryan getting 29 about to beat Alabama. 11 over 6. Ryan 7 of 9 from three.

Apparently a career high for Ryan who had averaged 8.0pts and 4.9rebs prior.

Yeah, no question that the injuries, and especially the timing of the injuries, which happened right before the tournament, gave the team no time to adjust. I’d maintain we would have won even without Folkl and Nygaard, had the injuries happened a couple of weeks earlier and other team members had a chance to step up.
That being said, that there were extenuating circumstances doesn’t stop the powers that be from bringing it up every time there’s a 1-16 matchup.

John Wayne’s credo: Never apologize, it’s a sign of weakness.
I can’t remember who the #16 seed was but my comeback would include asking them how many wins does their coach have?

It was Harvard, which makes the whole thing worse.

Wasn't Feaster the NPOY? When is the last time Harvard had that?
It's just not that big a shock - even heading into the game I was uneasy about an L. (Unlike this weekend).

Feaster was an all-American and Ivy League PoY, but the national player of the year in 1998 was Chamique Holdsclaw.

I've often speculated with the notion of low-ball bracket games. I'd be a strong contender every year.
I'm Kentucky one way or another, but the BBN has experienced a great deal of pain over the years. Many of us are sick of the one and done style. It made some sense 10 years ago, but less and less.
Cal has developed fine teams with no-star rosters (UMass and Memphis in the first years) and I hope he goes in that direction.
As to the game, it's apparent that the guards were a lot more beat up than the nation realized.

a shame that the Toejams lost.

The 2004 tourney? Underseeded Bama who got their legit big man back from injury just in time...ugh.
