NCAA Wrestling championships - Spiny_Norman - 03-18-2022

Stanford sent 5 wrestlers to the NCAA meet which started yesterday in Detroit.

Real Woods (141 lbs) and Shane Griffith (165 lbs) have both advanced to the semis later today. Both will face undefeated, #1 ranked wrestlers in their weight class. Woods vs. Nick Lee, defending national champ from Penn State. Griffith vs. Evan Wick from Cal Poly who has beat Griffith 3 times already this year.

Stanford's other wrestlers have all lost in the main bracket and then lost in the consolations.

As a team, Stanford is currently tied for 8th place.

Shane Griffith pulled off a double leg takedown (worth two points, for those who don't follow the sport) with 0:03 left in the match to upset #1 Evan Wick 7-6 and advance to the final. They went to the monitor to confirm the call and the time, very dramatic.

Shane Griffith about to wrestle for the national championship for those that are interested - it's on ESPN.

2-1 Griffith after the first period.

4-4 after the second period.

Griffith is beaten 6-5, finishes as national runner up.
