We spent many happy hours tailgating in the oak grove. He was a great Stanford fan, great company, a great story teller, and a great friend. He will be sorely missed.

Very sad news. I met Terry several times at those gaiters and, of course, regularly “conversed” through the old Bootboard.
He coached (and perhaps ran) CYO basketball for many years - I believe somewhere in the Seattle area. A gracious man. Passionate about Stanford football.
May he Rest In Peace.

Sorry to hear this. "The Old Goat" was always a great presence on the Bootleg, and at the Grove. Sad news.

Coach would sidle over to Himes tailgate and we would talk golf. Rory McElroy was his “adopted son” and he was a big fan of Jordan Spieth. We had been talking about a tour of the City highlighted by my memories of being born in North Beach and growing up in the Sunset. Then Covid happened. Member of the old BGL on the Boot. Could be found in the Grove with a tan hat.
RIP Coach.

Wow, Mrs. Dawg was asking about Terry last night, wondered if I knew how he was doing. :(
Tried to connect with him on our last trip past San Juan Batista, but I couldn't get a response. That was 3 years ago.
A great guy. Loved talking golf and Stanford sports with him. He will be missed.
RIP, Coach.

Although I never met him in person, I enjoyed reading his opinions since I knew they came from another Stanford fanatic such as myself. RIP, Terry.

Well, shoot. McGrath was a great guy. We had different political views, but our chats on the old Bootie message board were always fun and often very humorous. RIP, and I bet all those goats are waiting for you.

Alas, the one time I tried to meet him in person at a game didn't work out. I enjoyed chatting with him via PM on the Bootleg about the good old days at Bay Meadows and Tanforan. Rest easy, coach.

Speaking of Tanforan… apparently the mall is going to close and be replaced with housing and biotech buildings.

Tanforan Race Track had a storied history. It basically replaced the track in San Francisco’s Ingleside District (homes were built on the oval that still exist as Urbano Way just below the old El Rey Theatre).
Tanforan served as a relocation center in 1942 for Issei, Nisei and Sensei before transferring them to Topaz, Utah in the shameful “Internment” program during WW2.
After the war racing returned and the immortal Citation was upset by the tiny Noor. Noor and Citation have streets in the area named after them and there is a statue of Seabiscuit in the Mall.
Tanforan burned down in 1964 (arson?). I bet Coach was a railbird.
The mall is scheduled to be leveled for condos and tech buildings.
