Brook Lopez - BostonCard - 04-10-2022

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-bucks-looked-different-without-brook-lopez-now-that-hes-back-can-milwaukee-repeat/

He’s back from an injury.  Good analysis of his game.  What is interesting is that I didn’t figure him for a defensive standout.  Robin was always the more aggressive defender at Stanford, and Brook was the more polished offensive player, so it is interesting that Brook Lopez’ NBA game has become “rim protector”.

Not exactly the most athletic in the videos, but clearly he’s getting it done, and at 7 foot, he’s not bad.

He’s had a heck of an NBA career.  In fact, is there any Stanford  player in the last 50 years that has had a better NBA career that him? Wheres Longwinded when you need him….. :)

Nobody even close in the last sixty years.

George Yardley now 61 years ago
Rich Kelley more recently

60 years since Yardley and Pollard before that were Hall of Famers.

But Rich Kelley's NBA career is not in the same orbit as Brook Lopez's ongoing career. Kelley was a journeyman who was a backup most of his career and was finished at age 32.

I was thinking of the not even close

RE: Brook Lopez - OutsiderFan - 04-11-2022

Last night's Warriors-Pelicans telecast featured a spotlight on Kevon Looney being one of only 5 NBA players to play in every game for their team this NBA season. One of the other five is Dwight Powell.

I don't recall who the other three were, but none of them were All-Star level players. Still, it's a pretty impressive accomplishment, especially considering only 5 players out of about 500 or so pulled it off, and Powell was coming off ACL surgery IIRC. DP has had arguably the best season of his career.

Mavs fan here.  Powell has been fantastic this season.  He's become an elite pick and roll guy (it doesn't hurt when Luka Doncic is the other guy in the pick and roll).  Powell just set the Mavs' record for consecutive shots made--18 over four games. Not too surprising, as he's shooting 67% for the season.

Powell definitely has a specialized role for the Mavs, but he does it really well.

Thanks, Terry.  Very helpful and there were a couple of players I hadn't thought of in quite a while (Mike Bratz!)

RE: Brook Lopez - BostonCard - 04-17-2022

Lopez was the second scorer behind ANTETOKOUNMPO in the Bucks’ win over Chicago. 18 points and 4 rebounds.

Yeah Terry that Neumann guy could play.

He wasn't bad in Cool Hand Luke either.

Don't anybody tell me we have a failure to communicate.

Yeah but how many hard-boiled eggs could he eat?

RE: Brook Lopez - Mick - 04-18-2022

The first Stanford basketball game I recall seeing was their 1974 opener against LSU with both Bratz and Kelley.  I'd attended Stanford football games since Plunkett, but this was the first basketball game.  I was 12 years old and crazy about basketball...my dad had played collegiate ball (said his toughest opponent was Louie Dampier, who just started launching and making what would today be three point shots) and another 1/2 dozen members of my family.  Very high scoring game, Stanford won 92-80.

I'd forgotten that Mike Bratz was a Warrior for two seasons.

RE: Brook Lopez - BobK - 04-18-2022

My first Stanford basketball game either December 52 or 53. Ron Tomsic and George Selleck. Met George like 12 years ago

RE: Brook Lopez - fullmetal - 04-18-2022

In Saturday's first game of the playoffs for Milwaukee, Brook recorded 18 pts, 5 rebs, and 2 blks on 50% shooting (1-5 3pt) and 3-4 FT.  Brook played for 32 min and was +6 (+/-).  He was strong early and made some key plays in the waning minutes to seal the game for the Bucks.
