Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-07-2022

Track & Field News picks Stanford MEN 5th in the meet which starts tomorrow in Eugene. It's on various ESPN channels.
Stanford's rise is due to distance runners and even more so the rise of Sprinter Udodi Unwuzurike.
Unwuzurike is picked 2nd in both the 100 and 200.
In the 5K Robinson is picked 5th
In the 10K Hicks is picked 3rd and Sprout 7th
In the Triple Jump King is picked 3rd.
That's 34 points with Florida picked 1st with 42 points.

For the Women:
Heymach 3rd in the 1500
Miller 4th in the Javelin
Jones 7th in the Heptathlon
That's 13 points not top 10

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-08-2022

Sadly Unwuzurike 10.21 didn’t qualify for the finals in the 100
Missed qualifying by 2/100 of a second

RE: Stanford Track & Field - msqueri - 06-08-2022

Ugh, what a massive bummer.

He was in a pretty fast group.  Slow Start?

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-08-2022

Onwuzurike 20.24 moves on to the finals in the 200.
In the 100 9 advance Onwuzurike was 10th
Manson 16-10 3/4 in the pole vault finished 18th

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-08-2022

In the 10K Sprout 4th and Hicks who ran about the last half of the race with a bloodied nose and mouth was 6th. Rough sport

RE: Stanford Track & Field - akiddoc - 06-08-2022

Didn't see either the 100 or 200, but it looks like Udodi peaked too soon (2 weeks ago). Learning experience for him and the coaches. Very slow times today.

Udodi looks like more of a 200 runner. He had an extremely poor start in the 100, was unable to make up any meaningful time thereafter and started a slow lean way too early for the finish. He was only 6th in his heat and 10th overall. As for the 200, he did qualify for the finals with the 3rd best time overall, but he is up against some serious studs in that event.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume Charles had a nose bleed of its own volition. He had one in a recent 5000 too. Don't think it was an elbow, and can't fathom that really happening in a distance race, though of course it's possible however unlikely.

I called Sprout beating Hicks to some of my other Stanford buddies. Charles has seemed off in recent weeks, and Sprout has looked fantastic. And, even at Payton Jordan in April, Sprout was only 2 secs back in the 10000. That said, I did think Nur would win with probably Wildschutt second (I had Sprout third), so my powers of prediction aren't all that amazing. :-)

The announcers were talking about the nose and a split lip as a result of some sort of jostling in traffic. Now whether they were speculating or saw the elbow that drew blood, I'm not sure, but given the specifics, I'm guessing that they saw it and that it happened on one of the commercial breaks.

They were speculating, and said so at one point. But I'm sure Charles will post on IG about it, so we'll find out soon enough. :-)

Watch his performance from 2 weeks ago. He's a 100 runner as well.

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-09-2022

Whatever happened to Hicks hard to run bleeding in the mouth
I do thought Nur would win
Women today.

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-09-2022

Aragon 2 nd in the first semi and advances
Heymach 3rd in her semi advances
Tanaka also advances so three Stanford runners in the final
Tanaka 4:14.43 a PR for the Grad Transfer

Meh. It's more dramatic visually than in reality. Don't get me wrong, I love Charles but the bloody nose wasn't significant to the outcome. To his credit, he didn't use it as an excuse in his post-race interviews. He also said that he was not elbowed.

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-10-2022

Miller 7th in the Javelin yesterday. Almost a PR not far from 4th
Today Jones in the Heptathlon starting at 1

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-10-2022

King 4th in the TJ 53-6 1/2

After Day 1 Allie Jones is 5th in the Heptathlon

RE: Stanford Track & Field - BobK - 06-10-2022

Robinson 4th Sprout 9th in the 5K. 8 th was former Stanford runner Ostberg

My god, Ostberg must be 30 years old! Ok, not really, but at least 25. :-) The ages in the NCAA are just silly. In the 5000, Olin Hacker is 25. Beadlescomb (2nd) is 24 or 25.
