OT: Stupid Comments by Announcers - cardcrimson - 09-18-2022
With so many games on TV, lots of not so qualified announcers hit the airwaves and they make a lot of stupid comments. One just now takes the cake. I've Red Zone in the back ground and they're highlighting the Jets game. The color guy, in a very definitive tone regarding a face mask penalty: "I don't think they make that call if he didn't grab the face mask and rip the helmet off". . . . .

i am bothered most by announcers who talk to each other rather than call the game. one play-by-play and one color, please; we don't need 2 color commentators! i was re-watching the colgate game, and they spent the 4th quarter talking to each other about nothing in any way interesting. ok, the subs are in; but maybe fans would like to hear a bit about ari patu and hear who carried the ball and who made the tackle. i presume the announcers had done no homework on the promising freshmen and sophomores.
this practice is especially annoying in women's basketball telecasts. even in an important, tight game, the camera will focus for 30 seconds on someone "interesting" in the crowd while the game is in play. or the announcers will discuss, say, tara's piano or dogs for 10 minutes.

"Bradford...TOUCHDOWN USC!! Stanford, touchdown, Stanford. My Goodness. Jim Harbaugh if you ask me is going to go for the tie right here, he's holding up...Obviously, they're tied right now he's going to go for the extra point.... I got so excited I got the teams messed up."

Yeah, one of the most iconic Stanford moments of recent history, and it was ruined by the announcers.
Also, when Francis Owusu caught the touchdown against UCLA, and the color guy spent time trying to figure out who the Alabama player that made a similar catch was.
