“But the fact that it slid by for a year and a half does make me feel a little uneasy, given that there are like, very little security measures that exist.”
Too stunning for words. . . .

regarding the recent imposter
Quote:Stanford administrators and the public safety department have been aware since at least December 2021 that William Curry, the Alabama native who was removed from campus Thursday, had pretended to be a Stanford student and lived in multiple University dorms, according to communications obtained by The Daily.

While this is a different situation, in that the individual posed as a Stanford student, it was not unusual (late 60's early 70s) to have "extra" people living in student residences. In Mirrielees it was not uncommon for a student's SO to be living with them, so there were 3 in the apartment instead of two, obviously "off the books". It was also true that students between off-campus moves (and occasionally students who had no place to live in sight) would live in the basements of the Stern hall houses. This was done with the knowledge of many, if not all, of the people in the dorm.
Back then, it was pretty easy to do, as the buildings were never locked. If necessary, getting a key duplicated was easy. Nobody much cared about the "extra" people as long as they were known to be as reliable as anybody else in the dorm was. Today, with all the electronic locks present on the doors it is unclear to me how this is being done. Waiting around to "tailgate" somebody doesn't seem viable, and you would expect if you did that somebody eventually would ask who you were and why you didn't have the semi-obligitory lanyard around your neck. Perhaps security is not what it seems?

This man was in a relationship with a female undergrad, and when she broke up with him, he began stalking and harassing her.
From the article above: "He messaged her and her roommates continually, using different phone numbers. '******* me raw, then ******* ******...dirty *****,' he said in texts provided to The Daily after allegedly accessing messages the woman had exchanged with a man the summer after she and Curry broke up."
And the Department of Public Safety knew that he was a squatter last year.
This is inexcusable.

One of the amusing (and very sad) things I recall about Azia Kim was the fact she was accepted by Cal. She felt that wouldn't be enough to please her parents so she pretended to her family and friends she was a Stanford student. Really no physical threat to anyone.

Wow. That article just gets worse and worse. He stalked her for over a year and came back to campus after summer break and still did it! And the woman kept reporting it. Thank God nothing horrible happened, some heads should already be rolling over this.
Azia Kim's deception was much more benign, and funny (I forgot the kal bit, hilarious).

Quote:Mostofi confirmed that Curry had been on campus since December of last year. As to how Curry had returned so many times, Mostofi confirmed that SUDPS had “obtained multiple stay-away letters” but were “unable to locate him until the most recent incident on Oct. 27, at which point he was given the letter.”
It was not immediately clear why deputies were unable to find Curry. University communications obtained by The Daily over the weekend show he was escorted multiple times from campus and an ex-girlfriend who was reportedly stalked for months after the fact by Curry told The Daily she had called 911 and told them Curry was in Crothers Hall weeks before he was ultimately removed.

William Curry, from Birmingham, Ala., was removed from campus on Thursday after a resident assistant for Crothers Hall found the man living in the basement of the dorm, the Stanford Daily reported.
Stanford knew about the imposter for a year. He kept returning.

Stef's cousin or Barr Curry's cousin?
Who knows, he might have been trying to find Lelei Fokudo or whatever her name was.

Some of you might remember James Hogue, who was 25 when he stole the identity of a deceased infant and enrolled at Paly. He won a cross-country meet at Stanford, but refused to go to the medals table, and was dubbed the "Mystery Boy." A reporter for the Peninsula Times did some sleuthing and uncovered Hogue's identity theft.
Two years later, Hogue applied to Princeton as a self-taught orphan, providing Princeton with a reading list. He asked to defer for a year, telling them he was grieving for his deceased mother, when in reality he was spending a year in jail for bicycle theft. For two years, he attended Princeton, and bickered into the most exclusive dining club, the Ivy Club. He was uncovered when Renee Pacheco, a former classmate from Palo Alto HS, recognized him. She contacted the same reporter who uncovered him the first time, Jason Cole of the Peninsula Times, and he exposed him again. He did time for a variety of offenses related to the impersonation at Princeton, and subsequently had some misdeeds at Harvard.

Seems like instead of protecting students from fun, maybe the admin should protect them from impersonators?

The Tree gets suspended.
Curry
Muir
Shaw
All get a pass.

Not sure what Muir or Shaw’s role is in this saga. Like, I get that people think they should be gone, and I don’t disagree, but not everything bad that happens on campus can be blamed on them, and I think thee is a numbing effect if every post is a call for their firing.
I think this reflects poorly on Provost Drell, as residential education is under her purview. Moreover, Muir does report to Drell, so this is two strikes against her.

Don’t forget that the university failed to remove fake student Lenny Kekula from campus. She died which got them off the hook.

Cal student posing as Stanford student to infiltrate university was a Gaieties plot in the mid-90s. Life imitates art!
