In a balanced attack that featured six double-figure scorers, freshmen Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (13) and Bella Fontleroy (12) and JC transfer Catarina Ferreira (10) also scored in double digits, while Stanford transfer Van Gytenbeek chipped in with nine points, five assists, four rebounds and two turnovers in 25 minutes off the bench.
"What I love about Jana is she's never tired," Collen said. "We can't even drive up her heart rate when we want to. She's in the best shape of any player I've ever coached, at any level. She's going to get it and she's going to challenge in transition on every possession."

Is there any indication that JVG knew Nicki Collen or has some other connection to Baylor? How close was JVG to Carrington, I wonder--they did not quite overlap, did they?
Or had she waited patiently for Wilson and the Hulls to depart only to be told that incomers like Nivar, Lepolo, Harriel et. al. were likely to take up most of the game minutes?
I still find it hard to understand why an athlete without strong professional prospects would leave a Stanford degree for any reason, although Baylor is of course a very respectable academic institution
Or, as Bob says, it may always remain a mystery.

From what I heard from my friends who are friends with her, she just didn't enjoy being at Stanford. Loved her teammates and all, but not the school and the environment.

i support jana's right to transfer for any reason.
that said, imo baylor is not a highly ranked undergrad program. admissions rate is 43%. some of the graduate programs yes, but not undergrad. baylor med center is highly ranked but it's in houston, nowhere near the undergrad campus. for comparison, baylor is
ranked well below u oregon. baylor undergrad is not a u texas, much less a cal, ucla, usc, or duke.
in terms of fun, doesn't baylor purport to be a highly religious school, yet one notable for the numerous sexual assaults by members of the football team?

Baylor is the worlds largest Baptist University
Also the former St Francis Mt View basketball player murdered by a teammate then covered up by the coach
Don’t get me started on Mulkey

Home opener for Baylor tonight and nearly through three quarters, no minutes for Jana. Baylor has only gone 8 deep. Baylor is very deep at the guard position.

That seems odd because if I recall correctly Jana represented Baylor at media day which would lead me to believe she is a captain and would expect starter minutes. Maybe she has an injury and she is sitting tonight in a game they know they will win.

Just finished listening to one of the numerous Baylor Women’s Basketball interviews of JVG (YouTube link below). When asked about transferring to Baylor, Jana said, "…the culture was different, real genuine and loving (emphasis on the "real")." She went on to say that when you are in the portal, you can easily see what you like, what you don’t like, what's genuine, what’s fake, and there is a lot of that…" In another interview, she said that "Stanford was deep at every level…" implying that it was difficult to get minutes.
Everyone will, and should, draw their own conclusion about Jana's decision to leave Stanford, enter the transfer portal, and transfer to Baylor. I’ve always assumed that she left because she wasn't assured of a starting role. I still feel that way. In listening to the interviews, I found that she has numerous successful athletes in her family spanning several sports and generations, so there probably was a big personal annd familial expectation for her to succeed. Anyone in sports should want to be a starter, she's no different.
Before Stanford, when she was in HS, she was both a Homecoming Queen and a starter on her basketball team. She seemed to enjoy the limelight, what athlete doesn’t? While Jana and her coach seemed real close, Nickie Collan is committed to winning. She has packed her team with several transfers and highly rated freshmen. Jana might not get everything she wanted in her transfer….
