Katie Ledecky is dead to me. . . - cardcrimson - 11-05-2022

Okay, not really. She just set the 800M SC freestyle world record. Not only was she wearing one, but two Gators caps in the process. Sad to see her no longer training on the Farm. I blame Muir.

Congrats to an amazing swimmer. . . .

And, why do you blame Muir?

Because, I don't think, Shaw has any influence on swimming. . . .

Don't blame Muir. She's a professional now and likely makes a lot of money. FL has no state income tax. Smart move on her part but I agree the cap sucks

She's also a volunteer swim coach for the Gators. (sigh)
Funny, when she talked above her move to Florida to train, she didn't mention taxes as a consideration.

There is a reason that so many professional athletes move to Florida.  The taxes are a major driver.  But the good winter weather for training is also a big plus.  And so many other professional athletes also makes a good training environment with high quality coaching....

that makes sense.
but i've heard it can be risky if you're training there between June 1st and November 30th.

Ledecky is now AP athlete of the year.

Article mentions her change in scenery.

...and no property taxes for people 65+. Oh, wait, she's not that old. Still, Florida. No amount of money could get me to live there.

All pro swimmers wear two caps. The first one is used to cover their hair, as latex clings to the head better. The second silicone one doesn't crinkle as much as latex, so it smooths any lingering bumpiness on the head. Without the second cap, there is more drag in the water because the first one could wrinkle.

If she were still swimming at Stanford, she'd be wearing two Stanford caps.

Boy I'd love to change this thread title. Short of shooting someone on Fifth Avenue, nothing Ledecky ever does will diminish my appreciation for her and her exemplary comportment as a model of the very best of what a Student-Athlete can be.

There are some additional exemptions on property taxes (based on things like income) for people over 65 in Florida. However to say that people over 65 pay no property taxes at all is not correct.

The OP was speaking tongue-in-cheek, hence…

I know - but when it pops back up after going quiet, I re-open it forgetting the sarcasm and expect something about swimmers at UPenn or somesuch (as has happened in the past). Call me a classic victim of click bait. ;)
