We're looking at a bunch of transfer point guards who are better. Let's hope we get one.

I not convinced we need a third point guard but for one year ok. Monty always wanted a third point guard. He could really coach so good plan

The other site is reporting that crystal balls are pointing to Stanford getting Providence PG, Jared Bynum.
If true, it looks like we have lost:
-Ingram
-Silva
-Moss
-Begovich
and we have gained:
-Stojakovic
-Carlyle
-Bynum
-open scholie
Overall, seems like an upgrade. Now, if HI were to return, it would be an impressive upgrade of talent.

Don't want to be overly negative, but I'm not sure what the excitement here is about. He's a 24-year-old who's never shot above 41.5% from the field. Maybe he's the next Joe Dumars on defense but it's hard to imagine him having much of an impact otherwise.

I look at it this way. It's an upgrade over Silva and may even be our starting PG.
With Raynaud, Spencer, Angel, Stoja, etc. On the floor, he may not need to be a high scorer most of the time. I see him as a PG who will not turnover the ball, play capable defense, and score 7 points a game.
I like getting an experienced PG besides MOC.

Being a "starting PG" makes me far more bearish about next year's team than I'd previously contemplated.
In other news, one of the more thorough/prominent draftniks -- Nate Duncan -- visited the Hoop Summit and had some pretty mild comments on Stojakovic. In of itself that's not the worst thing, because Duncan tends to be pretty tough, but I think his general reads of players' ceilings are correct. Duncan thought it was unlikely Stojakovic would be an NBA player, which suggests he's likely to be a downgrade from Ingram, assuming the latter player leaves.

Hopefully an upgrade, especially if he can play some defense. Big East 6th man of the year. Played on an NCAA tournament team. 81% on his free throws last year.

MOC/Silva were a mediocre PG tandem last year. Carlyle/Bynum would probably be an upgrade.

Anyone who's watched this team in the Haase era knows that the point guard spot and turnovers have typically been some of team's biggest problems.
In almost every offensive metric, Bynum is an upgrade on not only Silva, but O'Connell as well. Career numbers comparison:
Bynum: 27.4% assist rate, 14.8 % turnover rate; 78% FT the last two seasons; 33% career 3 PT
O'Connell: 23.2% assist rate, 21% turnover rate; 78% FT last year; 30.1% career 3 PT
Silva: 16.9% assist rate, 27.5% (!) turnover rate; 62% FT, 40.1% 3 PT (but only 25% last year)
The jury's out on his defense, and at 5-10, he's probably limited in the kind of impact he can make, but the numbers shows there probably isn't enough difference between Bynum and O'Connell/Silva on the defensive end to offset the upgrade on offense.
Bynum's arrival, alongside Carlyle, gives Stanford a potentially significant offensive upgrade at their weakest offensive position. I'm not particularly bullish on this team's ability to outplay the coaching (and thus will keep my expectations low), but having a steady veteran point guard who has big game experience is probably the best thing we could have hoped for.
